Sinovac Vaccine Develops over 50% Immunity against COVID-19

BANGKOK (NNT) - Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine has reported that two doses of Sinovac in Thais help to stimulate over 50% immunity against COVID-19.

 

The university worked with the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences to conduct tests on people who had already received two Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine doses.

 

According to Chulalongkorn University, the ELISA (Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay) technique used in labs showed that 95% of 186 people, who had received two Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine doses, had already developed immunity to COVID-19.

 

Meanwhile, blood tests also showed that 70% of 171 people, who had received two Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine doses over two weeks, had over 50% immunity against the virus.

50% is the minumum required effectiveness required to be granted emergency use authorization (EUA). Sinovac was granted this by the WHO a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile, Sputnik V, with over 90% effectiveness (the highest of all vaccines except for the mRNA ones) has yet to be granted EUA by either the WHO or the European agency. Politics paramount in all aspects of this pandemic and vaccines. AZ and J&J approved despite many serious risks being reported. Sinovac and Sinpharm approved with slightly more than mimium effectiveness.

Then there's the question of the political stigmatization of anyone, including many doctors, who posit the possibility of hydroxychlorquine and Ivermectin as treatment... despite an abundance of anecdotal evidence.

The fact that experimental treatments, such as the vaccines, cannot be granted EUA if there is an effective treatment available is not reported in the media. All that is stessed is that one must get the jab in order to be allowed some portion of the freedoms that we all once took for granted.

I would opt for the Russian jab if it were available. But it is not. There are some rumours of it getting the WHO approval in the coming months. But, failing that, I would get one of the Chinese old school endovirus jabs. Maybe not very effective, but at least it would allow me to operate on a longer leash.

At best they could potentially lessen the severity of symptoms if one were to get the virus.

And the risk of serious side effects seems minimal. The same cannot be said for the 2 mRNA jabs.

I'm lost................... so one test indicates 95% immunity, the other test 70% had immunity, but only 50% effective?

 

What am I missing?

More than 350 doctors and medical professionals have contracted Covid-19 in Indonesia despite the majority of healthcare workers having been immunized with Sinovac, officials said Thursday, just over a month after officials praised the shot for wiping out the disease among health workers.

Dozens of these were hospitalized, officials added, leading experts to question the effectiveness of the Chinese shot, particularly against the infectious Delta variant fueling the country’s outbreak.   

 

I hope you are right but it does not look good.  Several reports that it is not doing well against the variants.  The majority of the cases here now are the UK and Indian variants.  Almost 90% the UK variant.

I am not disputing but where is your source that 90 here (meaning Thailand yes) is so called UK variant?

90% UK variant. Around 9% Indian variant but now also 400 people found with South African variant. Its all sourced in recent threads just look it up.

It means 50% will not get the disease at all............. the other 50% may have symptoms but won't be hospitalized or die, it doesn't mean that it failed to work in the other 50%.......so Sinovac might not be as good its other vaccines in preventing the disease, but still better than dying.

That is a 50% chance of not displaying symptoms (not contracting the virus) and 100% (near as dammit) of not dying.

And it doesn't look much better in Chile where Sinovac is also the most used vakzin.

Two things.....firstly, the vaccine was developed to fight the original virus; not too sure what virus is dominant in these countries.......secondly, if it is only 50% effective you might expect 50% of those vaccinated to be ill (to varying degrees)....

this ain't over (no matter how bad you want it to be) by a long shot. The world played the 'haves and have nots' vaccination wise for far too long and it's going to come back and bite em' real hard. This 50% protection is hell of a lot better than 0% protection that most of the poor countries have now, the Chinese with their distribution probably have saved many more lives than the late G7 effort will (after they were shamed into it) I believe the Chinese realize the 'world' needs the shots collectively for them to be truly effective, but unfortunately greed will prevent this..

The proof of all vaccines will be how many people get, die and get hospitalised after taking the companies vaccines.

 

I've yet to see any country publishing figures on hospitalisations and deaths based on each company vaccines after 2 doses. Whish in my mind is crucial !

 

Just as possible Thailand could inject 100% and it turn out Sinovac puts more people in hospital than all the other vaccines combined - but since Thailand has injected virtually nobody yet once - let alone twice - we cannot see it yet. But it could be coming in a few months - wonder if Thailand could get its money back
