Pet parrot in Thailand swallows 21 diamonds belonging to its owner

Vets from the Animal Space Hospital went on Facebook to say they had operated on a mischievous parrot.

Xrays revealed hard objects in the bird's stomach and when it was cut open 21 diamonds were found.

They had come from its owner's hair clasp.

The vets noted that birds were smart and naughty and would often eat everyday objects like nuts and bolts.

They were also fond of stuff that sparkled.

Surgery is not always necessary, a procedure to wash out the stomach can be done.

Pet owners were advised to keep things away from their animals and told about the warning signs when they had swallowed something they shouldn't (the pets, that is).

This could be when they are off their food, suffer interruption to their toilet routine or are depressed.

Thai Rath did not report whether the diamonds were real or not.

"It's pining for The Fjords"

I can imagine the scene, reminds me of Dennis Farina talking to Vinnie Jones in the film Snatch... "Look in the parrot" and "Open him up".

I question whether eating every day objects like nuts and bolts is really all that 'smart'.

Owner now says recovering diamonds is going to be a sh**ty job.

A certain someone is not looking forward to the  post op' report.

The parrot owner must be hi-so, since the owner can afford to have diamonds lying around to feed a pet parrot...????

I suppose when words gets out, it won't be Polly want a cracker, anymore.

Polly didnt get crackers, so took the diamonds

My talking parrot would regard that with suspicion and say " Is you friend or is you enema"?

Think vets need to look up the definition of smart.

I've heard of shi**ing blue lights but never diamonds.

If they are not real then neither is the story really.

Headline alternate: Parrot, deprived of a carat.

To be  fair it was prolly less traumatic than having a lubricated finger eased up its rectum.

Maybe it is a Thai definition.....don't want the Parrot to lose face...

Once they knew they were in there, couldn't they just have put Polly in a cage and waited for nature to take its course?

I bet that was what happened when I came to Thailand! (The anaesthesia hasn't really worn off yet...)
