Pet parrot in Thailand swallows 21 diamonds belonging to its owner

Vets from the Animal Space Hospital went on Facebook to say they had operated on a mischievous parrot.

 

Xrays revealed hard objects in the bird's stomach and when it was cut open 21 diamonds were found. 

 

They had come from its owner's hair clasp.

 

The vets noted that birds were smart and naughty and would often eat everyday objects like nuts and bolts.

 

They were also fond of stuff that sparkled. 

 

Surgery is not always necessary, a procedure to wash out the stomach can be done.

 

Pet owners were advised to keep things away from their animals and told about the warning signs when they had swallowed something they shouldn't (the pets, that is).

 

This could be when they are off their food, suffer interruption to their toilet routine or are depressed. 

 

Thai Rath did not report whether the diamonds were real or not.

I question whether eating every day objects like nuts and bolts is really all that 'smart'.
