Thailand on Saturday (June 26) reported 4,161 new COVID-19 cases and 51 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 4,089 new infections
● 72 prison / prison infections

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 240,452 with 1,870 deaths.
(Total infections since April 1: 211,589)

The news comes as Thailand will close hundreds of construction sites and prevent workers from leaving their camps for a month, in an effort to tackle the country's worst coronavirus outbreak so far.

These are terrible numbers. We’ll have to see the hospital walk-in admissions to see if hospitals have capped testing.

There isn’t enough testing, and the vaccination campaign is insufficient.

If the delta variant gets a hold here they will be unlikely to be able to cope with the case load in hospitals.
it’s truly scary how fast that variant can spread.

No more artifacts left, they've run out danderman, and its all new cases, high numbers in deaths daily and the daily covid deaths are now consistently more than the daily road accident deaths. Thailand now in full pandemic mode with no effective measures to halt the worsening spread of Delta

Rolling 7 day average (up to 24th June only) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases.

I was watching a UK news analysis along these lines. In the UK the high and fast increasing infections are coming up against a wall of well vaccinated population... so hospital admissions are being held down. (Keeping the apparent Delta death rate very low). Thailand is well short of the right numbers and rate of vaccination for this...... not to mention the brands being used.

BP have reported two cases of the Delta covid-19 variant in Nakhon Ratchasima, even though both have been fully vaccinated with the  Sinovac vaccine..

Or how it can infect those who had an earlier strain of Covid.

Over 4000 community transmissions. This is the most so far. Now I expect hundreds if not thousands or 10's of thousands will try to escape their impending covid caging. The spread is well and truly going to accelerate. 4000 is in actuality x5 or x10, who knows but it's bad. ICU basically full so 51 deaths may soon look like a low number.

Chonburi Public Health Office has just announced they have 320 new cases and two more deaths. Most new cases are in

Chonburi City (55),

Bang Lamung/Pattaya (113),

Sattahip (57),

Si Racha (69).

The total cases so far is now 7,527 with 2,276 remaining in care

I suspect that the sharp rises and sharp drops in case numbers that occur each day are artifacts of lab processing, but it’s not very reassuring because the underlying trend is very bad.

What strict measures would you suggest?

Yep, those workers in the camps have already been given prior notice that they'll be locked in from Monday, they'll be doing their exits into the community right now.

If I worked construction and was housed in a dormitory, I would get out of Dodge this weekend, time to go back to Myabodia.

Chonburi orders temporary closure of several construction workers camps in Banglamung following Covid-19 clusters

Owners, operators, workers, and other people involved must strictly follow the order. Relevant agencies and officials will assist those who have been temporarily stopped from working and quarantined, regardless of their Covid-19 status.

The measures that many of us have been suggesting since the first cluster was announced the end of March. The ones that posters like you have been opposed to, because we're merely overreacting to everything

Nice to see you admit that they are not true artifacts but anomalies that are not good at all.  Testing here as I have been saying is filled with flaws, and if they would randomly test in the communities they might get ahead of this, however, they are not concerned it appears and only wish to lock down construction sites and workers camps.  This is not just in those locations.  Are they really that ignorant to see that they are only large areas, while there are plenty of smaller areas spreading outwards like tentacles.

A full lockdown of Bangkok and provinces with high case loads

A villager from up our way was working in Bangkok and, suspecting he had Covid, tried to get a test at a number of hospitals but could not get one.

He took it upon himself to drive back up north to Sakon Nakhon and reported straight to the hospital there, where he was tested and admitted straight away.

Fortunately he knew rules and took all the right precautions and importantly, he did not come home to the village.

From what we have heard from his family, he said the hospitals in Bangkok were all under pressure and simply didn't want to know him!

I have been told some places in Isaan are now requiring RT-PCR tests from visitors from red zones. And quarantine.

The short-term trend (blue line) seems to have prominence over the medium-term trend (black line) as the likely trajectory.

Today’s numbers (red x) are already above this short-term trend line, which is a worry!

I've heard similar experiences, very difficult to get a test in Bkk.

That's been true here for many weeks.

I have no idea, hence my question. I generally fit into the "lockdown sceptic" group, so I really only see mass vaccination as the solution. But unfortunately Thailand has not done, and is not doing, so well with that.
