BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called an urgent meeting of the government’s economic team on Monday, to map out relief measures for those affected by the latest set of restrictions, intended to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the meeting will discuss financial relief for businesses and individuals, after construction worker dormitories were ordered sealed and some businesses ordered to close for 30 days from today (Monday).

Meanwhile, the private sector is calling on the government to roll out relief measures, to lessen the impact of the latest COVID-19 control restrictions, and to review its economic stimulus and COVID-19 relief programs, to keep up with the changing outbreak situation.

Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) chairman Sanan Angubolkul said the TCC is equally concerned about public health and the economic situation. If these stringent measures work, Thailand should be able to regain international confidence in time for its plan to reopen the country. However, these measures should not be maintained for too long, as they are hurting certain businesses, particularly those in the restaurant, tourism and service sectors.

I thought he knew what he was doing from the get-go? Perhaps he was wrong... 555

Well i never; but he said he had it 'all under control'  !!

So - an urgent meeting is called on how to give away money.

Any mention on how do we stop the fourth wave, or even the third wave?

He keeps telling us, everything is under control, yet now he is panicking, calling urgent meetings.

If he had called urgent meetings months ago, about getting a decent supply of vaccines, and getting them in the people, this latest crisis could and would have been avoided.

The most urgent thing is how Thailand can get rid of this incompetent man... He needs urgent meetings to stay....and even more urgent are the vaccines, but who cares, next month only half of what is ordered.... Everything under control so far...

You need a map now? Did you lose your blueprint?

Of course Thailand's vaccine problem has to be self inflicted, couldn't possibly be anything to do with the wealthy nations.

What would Amnesty international know about anything, the real expertise resides in TVF.

The self-interest of G7 countries is the biggest obstacle to ending the Covid-19 pandemic, a group of campaigning organizations said today. Ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit, the People’s Vaccine Alliance warned that G7 promises to vaccinate the world by 2022 will be impossible to fulfill, if governments continue blocking proposals to waive patents and share life-saving technology.

time to roll out the reserved money if there's anything left and help the people who need it but that won't happen because its all under control remember

So queues outside the Banks again?  If they can't buy, beg, borrow or steal sufficient vaccines it will be money tossed to the wind in effect!

I have a horrible feeling that Thailand will be bankrupted by COVID. The amounts being staffed away are incredible while tax receipts are headed downward, and so the money will have to be borrowed. Who is going to lend it to Thailand where personal household debt is already at 89% of GDP? What sort of risk premium needs to be given for such loans?

What happens when the government gives away massive amounts of money? The bigger the amount of money, the worse it will be invested. I will bet it ends up in the pockets of the hiso elites and government officials.

He's looking a little jaded this morning, maybe an uncomfortable weekend with everything going t*t's up.?

Never mind I'm sure his retirement plan and location is all sorted.

I wonder if he now considers blocking every entity in the country from procuring vaccines was such a good idea?

He wanted to look like the saviour of the nation, now he looks like the person who masterminded it's downfall.

He had a nice lake view villa in Argentina I think.

We'd be better off if politicians where sealed into their homes and their offices closed for 30 days.

It's the vaccines, stupid.  Make getting lots and lots of them NOW your first priority.

Government took bribes from China to deliberately obstruct any non-Chinese vaccines from entering the country

You're back! ????

Yes, let's blame the victims of China's pandemic. The victims who have created the only really functioning vaccines. ????????

It's always the Farang's fault.

I don’t know why this needed a special urgent meeting.

the restrictions were announced yesterday. The financial assistance package should have been part and parcel of that decision and included in that announcement.
