Tough times ahead for all Chonburi alcoholics

In before someone claims this will be "the straw that breaks the back of tourism in Thailand" - like they so often do whenever there's even a one day ban on booze sales.

Luckily we'll still be able to buy booze during the day. In fact, you could be out buying booze right now if you really wanted to !

May as well have a curfew then as well.  Not much difference.

My first thought.....

So me and the wife cannot have a drink at home in the evening?

Did you read the link supplied in the OP? Try that, and get back to us when you are more informed.

Yes, it just states what it "could" mean going by the laws wording , sensationalist reporting .

Its a vague law stating groups cannot congregate , I am quite sure you and your Wife having a drink at home will not be classed as a group

Yes, I expect not. And I doubt they will be patrolling up my cul-de-sac at 10pm flashing a light into my lounge to check if I am drinking, and we are wearing our masks. Simply highlighting what seems to be a rather loosely written regulation.

As long as you don't have an angry neighbor drop a dime on you!

It was probably loosely worded to stop locals buying bottles of whisky from 7/11 at 7.59 PM and spending the evening all drinking together on the streets and outside shops , which was what happened last time

Well no because at 6 in the morning its not supposed to be for sale.

Times of sale are 11.00 - 14.00 and 17.00 - 24.00     so from midnight till 11 am not for sale.

that was of course before the latest no sale from 8pm till 4am    but at 4 am it was already covered ?

Nothing like making it confusing eh ?

So effectively we can't buy booze from 8pm until 11 am the next day. They knew that, so why didn't they say it ? Unless it was meant for restaurants but I thought they couldn't sell booze either. Or was that changed (and now changed again) ?

I foresee line-ups outside of 7-11s similar to the line-ups outside of Immigration on Monday mornings !

How am I going to survive another 2 hours until I can buy booze again ! I'll have to rely on the stock pile I already have ! (Although the other day I was in Tops and was looking for the sign saying what the hours were and a clerk pointed out the sign and told me it was OK to buy then even though it was only 1:30. He thought the sign meant they couldn't sell between 2-5 !

(I've actually seen people standing by a cash register waiting out the clock. The last time I was in Koh Chang I did that as well, as I had been shopping and got to the checkout at 10:45 so sat by the door for 15 minutes until the cashier waved me to come pay for the booze.)

I'll have to go look at their sign again as I recall reading it, looking at my watch and seeing there was half an hour before it said sales were allowed. I'll wait until after 11 though !

The major supermarkets and franchise convenience stores can't sell after 8pm but the mom and pop stores are always willing to sell after hours and on non sales days.

My  local Mini Big C  is on the ball

they can sell alcohol  from 11am till 2 pm   and then from 5pm till 8 pm

that means no sale from  8pm till 11 am  and  from 2pm till 5pm

I would consider 23:00 to 4:00 a "vitual curfew" anyway. With nothing open there's little reason to go outside during those hours.

Prior to this, you could have small private gatherings, with alcohol consumption. Not anymore.
