Nope. The lower numbers today are not due to lab testing backlogs, but rather a lower number of hospital walk-in admissions.

We may finally be at the point where hospital capacity starts to limit case numbers.  There were about 1,000 fewer hospital admissions yesterday, even though there are obviously people waiting to be admitted.

The national help line system seems to be a bit of a failure. How difficult is it to have a list of hospitals with available beds available to a few hundred operators? No need for medical personnel to staff the lines, people are calling to find a hospital bed. If there are no beds in Bangkok, how about Chonburi or Lopburi? This is not rocket science.

Looks like it's time for increased lockdown. Australia has the right idea with lockdown as one 90 year old woman has died there.

I'm confused by the whole thing. Thailand has more people vaccinated than Australia. Can anyone explain?

Just tracking back to a helpful post a few days ago by "tallguyjohninbkk" the chart and link are there.

"MoPH also released another chart showing their progress in vaccinating various priority groups in Bangkok province:, with more than 16% of high risk medical personnel still not having received their second shot as yet."

I notice from that same graphic, that the category of government officials shows at 100%. Who would have thought?

The restrictions are working as I predicted the numbers fall after a couple of days.Same predictable pattern as before.Still no testing numbers so still no transparency as expected.

It was the same April 2020 if I remember correctly. About 3 days after the lockdown the reported numbers miraculously started to fall and remember the authorities saying it was due to the lockdown they had implemented. Couldn't believe it then and wouldn't believe it now if it happens again.

It has now truly covered Thailand again.  This spread came from the governments inability to make a quantifiable decision and instead chose risk over health.  Sad.

So in a nut shell,  you believe that schools in Bangkok currently should be open.

Heavens forbid. Amazing.

In a nutshell, yes, at that time, I would not have closed schools.  Obviously in a total lockdown schools would and should be included.  I like Japan's approach to Covid and schools.

Government spokespeople repeat the update that starting today, their televised COVID news briefings in English language will be limited to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule, instead of the 7-days-a-week schedule they had been on.

This as of July 9 was the most recent update I've seen looking at percentages for target populations, in other words, how close are they to achieving their 70% vaccinated targets for each of the various groups (not what percent of each group has actually been vaccinated):

The first line on the chart is for medical workers.

The second line on the chart is for government officials/officers

The chart says they're very close to having achieved their target of full vaccinations for 70% of medical workers, but nowhere close to that for government officials/officers.

If you notice at the bottom of the chart, their total target population is 50 million, which is the 70% out of 70 million total population vaccination target.

80 deaths with covid test positive, not for covid. Why we don't test for every other virus existing on the planet? How many deaths for heart attack? For cancer? Deaths for meningococcus? It's contagious!

My wife was pleased that the "reported" infection rate was down. She posited 100 less tomorrow, and so on.

Even intelligent, educated Thais are inclined to accept goverment say so.????

So how and where does one register for a Pfizer vaccination?

10 percent of the 1.5 million U.S. donated Pfizer vaccines (150,000 doses) are supposed to be reserved for unspecified foreign nationals, focusing on those age 60 and above and those with chronic medical conditions.  The vaccination program for foreign nationals is supposed to be organized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Zero details as yet of just how that's going to work. The U.S. vaccines haven't arrived yet.

Same question as with the two children. Did they bring it in, or catch it here. I think that makes a big difference, at least in my mind. If the latter, well, just how many cases are there in Phuket? If the former, how many locals did they infect?

the follow up question is, what strain do they have?

hope they can see the Patong firework show and Laguna breakdance performance from their quarantine hotel, otherwise they are missing out on the highlights of their holiday.

the good news is that after 3 days of incessant rain and thick cloud, today finally sees some patches of blue sky and a little bit of sun.

We will hopefully get answers to your first question. Testing and results in the sandbox cannot be hidden and may inadvertently give an indication of the situation in Phuket.

I read and posted on another thread yesterday a suggestion for turning the potentially harmful publicity from travellers being transferred to ALQ hotels. The passengers in question are those who unwittingly chose the wrong seat or flight to travel on, tested negative, but due to circumstances were transferred to ALQ. Why not guarantee all travellers that with the exception of F&B , there will be NO additional charges should this happen to them. Numbers should be small and it might help appease the situation slightly. Or is that too sensible?

Just for information, another 630 passengers arrived on 6 flights yesterday.

It was a diffent beast back then with low infection numbers of double or low tripple figures. Now is an out of control Delta variant with numbers pushing 5 digits and infections in every province.

I heard when they said "out of 700,000 healthcare worker ONLY 880 of them became infected" Sounded like look the vaccine is working.

Well, that would mean that all 700,000 healthcare workers would have been direct exposed to the virus. Sure they are at a higher risk, but it means not much at all.

Just like other so called  'planning' by the govt, nothing never materializes.

As with the the Pfizer and AZ vaccines, when they do post a registration link, the site will either overload, crash or full quota already allocated within minutes.

Few reasons.

First up the lockdown in Sydney (one state) is due to positive case numbers in the community. Tipped to possibly rise to 100. Very little if nothing to do with 91 yr old death.

As for vaccination numbers. First up Au population is ~ 25million Thailand towards 70.

Au also had poor roll out and was compounded by problems with AZ vaccine related to blood clots.

BTW Au is now steering away from AZ.

In addition and perhaps most important is active case numbers in various states. Some zero cases.

Even then it's pretty much in the cities.

Many Oz folk would perhaps see vaccination as not necessary. Thailand the opposite.

Finally relatively easy for country such as Au to have hard lockdown compared to Thailand. Financial support from gov to name one.

I just arrived back home from drive to big C and browse through Home Pro.

Bangkok does not have hard lockdown. Nothing like one.
