webfact Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Picture: Daily News The chief of the Royal Thai Police General Suwat Chaengyodsuk had a stark message for anyone breaking the 9 pm to 4 am curfew in Bangkok and nine other provinces. Deliberately break the law and we will prosecute you. There are jail terms and 40,000 baht fines for violators. He pointed out that the curfew was there for a good reason, to help limit the spread of Covid-19, and it was the duty of his men to uphold the law of the land. He said there would be no exceptions. Only essential supplies and people like rescue and public services are allowed to move about at night along with those seeking medical attention. The bespectacled chief - called by his nickname Big Pat in the Daily News story - went to checkpoints run by the Pahonyothin and Tao Poon police within the city area along with his deputy Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat. He then inspected a checkpoint manned by the Pak Kret police in neighboring Nonthaburi where he was joined by provincial governor Sujin Chaichumsak. There are 88 checkpoints set up in Bangkok. In other nearby provinces there are the following: Nonthaburi 2 Pathum Thani 4 Samut Prakan 5 Nakhon Pathom 5 Samut Sakhon 5 There are more checkpoints in the four southern provinces of Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Naratiwas. In total there are 148 curfew checkpoints manned by 1,553 police, 846 army personnel and 394 DOPA officials. This is the department of provincial administration. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-07-13 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1 1
Popular Post Whale Posted July 13, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 13, 2021 (edited) I am at a loss to figure out how a curfew of such limited proportions substantially limits the spread of infection? What happens between 9 and 4 that impacts curfew? Edited July 13, 2021 by Whale 3 1 1
BobinBKK Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 I live in direct view of the Chokchai 4 police station on Lat Phrao in Bangkok. I stood on my balcony after 9:00 pm last night and seen many cars drive past the police station. This happened every night the last time Bangkok had a curfew as well. One would think that directly in front of the police station officers would be stopping traffic, but this is NOT the case!!! 5555555 1

Surelynot Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Still not sure.......is this a curfew of traffic in and out of Bangkok for 24 hours a day (essential traffic only) of traffic in and out go Bangkok, but only 2100-0400 applied to everyone, even on foot in the streets, 2100-0400.

It's only a curfew when it's a curfew - i.e. between 9pm and 4am. Outside the curfew, travel in and out of Bangkok is discouraged and should only be for "necessary" trips. There's no evidence (yet) whether there are any checks on non-curfew traffic. Edited July 13, 2021 by brewsterbudgen
Tropicalevo Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 "Flout the law and you will be prosecuted" What, like Red Bull heir 'Boss' and the owners of the Thonglor VIP clubs? Or are we only prosecuting poor people? 1

What happens between 9 and 4 that impacts curfew? The RTP and government can show the plebs who is in charge? A lot of the 'rules' seem to be pulled out of someone's derriere and make no real sense other then to project power over the commoners. Like close restaurants but allow malls to stay open. Close traditional markets but allow Big-C, Marko, and other hypermarts to stay open. Make the commoners stay inside and share viruses in enclosed spaces while making it illegal to be outside in the fresh air between 'this time' and 'that time' all subject to changes and whims.
Scott Tracy Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 What time was he there? Between 21:00 and 04:00? No one arrest him, fine him? While everyone is fawning over him, miscreants are getting away with it. I don't recall seeing him in one of the local villages when that went into lockdown... There must be a word or phrase to describe this sort of thing.

Very, very few non-Thai citizens would be exempt under Article 4.
