Thonburi Healthcare Group Plc (THG), which operates a hospital chain, says it will join hands with a state agency to import BioNTech and Novavax COVID-19 vaccines.

Chairman Boon Vanasin said one of the vaccines he was eyeing was the mRNA type, similar to Pfizer’s, but was made by a joint venture of Germany-based BioNTech and China’s Fosun Pharma.

The other vaccine he was in talks to buy was the new protein-based vaccine made by US-based Novavax.

Novavax had excellent results in its phase 3 trials although they took place before Delta. The US FDA is in no hurry to give it emergency authorization, though. I'm surprised that Thailand is going to get in front of this.

*Misquote removed*

I’ve been posting that expats should leave ASAP. Given the chance, thousands of Thais would leave (as they made their wishes known months ago).

The situation is not going to improve until their is a ‘political shift’. It is going to take a lot more than honking car horns to remove these clowns from office.

I read a report on the USA nova vax that claimed it out performed the mRNA vaccines. If I can find it, I will post it.

Dr Boon is a widely followed stock market investor btw. Hope he is as good at investing in vaccines.

The mRNA Vaccines Are Extraordinary, but Novavax Is Even Better

Only 11 foreigners – all members of the media – will take the Bangkok Airways flight from Bangkok to Samui on Thursday, according to the Koh Samui Tourism Promotion Association.

Won’t help if they report back home the devastated and deserted tourist areas all boarded up and totally devoid of life.
I know there is still life in the Northern Areas were there is large expat community. But the tourist areas are in a very sad state ????

Thailand’s Ministry of Labor addresses an alleged cancellation order of Covid-19 tests for foreign migrant workers

Bangkok –

The Thai Ministry of Labor today, July 14th, explained their reasons for the alleged cancellation of Covid-19 tests for foreign migrant groups, following backlash flooding Thai social media since early this morning.

This followed the Foreign Workers Administration of the Department of Employment, under the Ministry of Labor, yesterday, July 13th, allegedly canceling health screening and Covid-19 tests for all foreign migrant workers in the highest and strictly controlled areas, claiming that hospitals in the areas could no longer facilitate infected patients.

14% of positive cases are sandbox tourists. Not that it matters much. They may just as likely caught it here as brought it in, all bar the one guy who tested positive at the first test.

And the funny thing is they were so adamant that they would have enough vaccines to vaccinate everyone this year.  Of course there is no possibility of this and even if there was, they don't even have the manpower to deliver these.

IT's just staggering how they have messed this up.

It's not staggering, it was entirely expected.

They are useless, almost to a man.

What about the simple possibility that theres been more deaths?

NOT due to Covid, but depression, alcoholism, mental illness, suicides, violence..

All brought on by lockdowns..

Lockdowns that the world has been trying now for 18 months, yet we all still have Covid in our countries..

As well as a massive amount of social issues, that we probably havent even realised the full potential of,

as yet.

You still don't understand what is happening. The lockdowns are minimizing infections, but they cannot stop it, only keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed.

and how long will it take to be cleared by the FDA?

And how much will it cost per dose?

This is the group, Thonburi Health, who were selling Moderna at about THB3,400 for two doses,

And this is the doctor who is being sued for defamation.

Thai Company Uses Phuket ‘Sandbox’ to Clinch a $4.75 Billion Deal

Thailand’s bold move to throw open Phuket, its most famous tourist destination, to vaccinated foreign visitors is paying off in more ways than one.

PTT Global Chemical Pcl used the reopening to sign an agreement to acquire Allnex Holding GmbH, a European specialty-chemicals maker owned by private equity firm Advent International, for 4 billion euros ($4.75 billion). Top executives of Allnex and Advent flew into Phuket last weekend to sign the deal, the biggest overseas acquisition by a Thai company in almost a decade.

The so-called Phuket Sandbox experiment of waiving a mandatory two-week quarantine for inoculated visitors allowed the “in-person signing” required for a deal of its size, PTT Global’s Chief Executive Officer Kongkrapan Intarajang told reporters at an online briefing on Tuesday.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-13/thailand-uses-phuket-sandbox-to-clinch-a-4-75-billion-deal

THAT is total bs. No deal needs to be signed in person. I was involved in my fair share of takeovers in my business days, usually as a small part in a deal done by my multinational employer and even in THOSE days of limited technology by today’s standards, in person signings were a photo op and nothing else.

but the sandbox HAS to be justified, come what may. This is scraping the bottom of the barrel though. Really, the very bottom.

It seems Thailand is ruled by media exposure and social media. The only way to get anything done here is have it go viral on social media and suddenly the authorities, police, central government, army, Amphur,  wake up and do something, at least for a short while.
