Thai media Manager said that another tourist from Ireland called Liam was an impressive addition to the Sandbox.

He had come all the way from England, where he had been working, to see his wife and children on Phuket  after being separated for two years due to the pandemic.

He said that it had been raining a lot during his stay at the Patong Bay Hill hotel but when the clouds cleared he headed for the beach with his family.

Here there was tons of trash that had been blown in and he encouraged his children, as he always has, to pick it up and show responsibility.

He said he could not sit idly by.

Manager called him an impressive father as well as a tourist.

Phuket Sandbox hotels to suit all budgets

Once again not a real tourist, but expat coming back to meet his familly.

So left on their own for 2 years, no locals thought it might be a good idea to clean up the trash on the beaches? The mind boggles

  • Popular Post

revised headline "phuket tourist does the job thais wont do"

with the rampant unemployment in tourism-dependent phuket, why isnt there an army of otherwise unemployed people being paid by the government to clean up the beaches

When there's nothing much to do you may as well get some exercise picking up the trash.

As the Mayor said everything is under control we have tourists cleaning up the beach trash.

its a sad indictment on Thailand that they praise someone whom is supposedly on holiday for picking up litter rather than regale the authorities for not providing clean beaches. Im not having a go at the guy, if that's how he wants to kill his family time then thats up to him, but do they honestly think that advertising trash laden beaches in this manner will attract genuine tourists? I dont think so! After 2 years of lockdowns and restrictions I certainly won't be planning a vacation whereby I can't enjoy the beach without having to wade through junk and trash. Wake up and smell the coffee Thailand, your days are numbered if you can't break out of your indolent, unsavoury habits.

Not really a tourists, rather a Sandbox-arrival, but anyway good he came, both for his family and for the economy.

Again we have massive hypocrisy. Liam is working....does he have a work permit for this work? Note even unremunerated work needs a work permit.

I used to think that this was a ok thing, but after the treatment I have received as a westerner in this crisis, I think what an idiot, cleaning up where it should be Thai's doing it.  Are they going to treat you any better for doing this??? I think not.  Probably laughing with each other at the falang'

Come!  Come to Sandbox Phuket and pick up the litter yourself.  If enough of you come, the beaches will again be "pristine!"  Come come.  Pay to clean up Thailand!

What a fake report. Locals clean every morning patong beach.

This way patong beach looks since many month. Pristine like in the 90s.

How embarrassing is that ? Shame on you Phuket !

Bad publicity spreads fast these days and Thailand has been too complacent for too long. You say you now want to attract hi-so tourists ? - Then stop acting like a 3rd world country !

No, they can sleep together, either at SHA plus hotel or at home, after daily checking at hotel, if they live in Phuket.

It like the rest of Thailand its not there responsibility,  maybe with the PM,s latest news of the SPACE AFFAIR ACT and God knows how many billions will be spent or syphoned off and wasted , imagine spending that money on rubbish disposal plants and recycling factories and educating rather than burning it dumping it and burying it, sorry l was dreaming there for a minute

Maybe you get let out of your ASQ cell an hour a day for yard duty and community service

Will it be mandatory to stay in SHA+ hotels only? Can we stay in a friend’s house or our own condo?

No, you can only stay in SHA+ accommodation only for the first 14 nights before you can stay in private accommodation.

The planet is ours. Cleaning it up is quite rewarding in itself.

Sandboxers can only use SHA accommodation.

Do the tourists locked up on the island get a discount for cleaning up the mess or is it a mandatory task as part of the visa?

Here in Texas, crews come by every morning and pick up trash that's floated in overnight.  (Crews financed by the city's hotel taxes)  And every morning, there's more.

If it had been 2 years, he'd need a container truck and a crew of 50.  Kudos to the guy in any case.

What's he know about tarballs?

Yes, but you only need to check in at your room once a day, at night, and nobody knows if you stay there to sleep or go somewhere else to sleep.

Anyway, since hotel room and breakfast is already paid, I should better stay there with my wife instead of going home, unless they have young children to take care at home.

You don't do it for Thailand, you do it for yourself and the environment.  Who wants a filthy beach ?
