Popular Post bbabythai
This is a no brainer but if they completely overhaul the police commission system so that they only get 3% instead of 30% it means that all that money goes back to the governments coffers. Spend it on improving Thailand. Give proper pensions to the old aged folks, better social security- medical and dental. Improve all hospitals. I know an old thai lady in her 70s who has to ride her push bike around to the restaurants selling fake orange juice. The government should take the corruption money away from these guys and give oldies a pension. If 1 dodgy cop has assets of 600mill I now understand why Thailand is just a 'developing' country. If things don't change now its a real joke..... Its like Thailand is stuck in the 1980's or whatever. Rant over. 10 1
Popular Post jvs
Sounds like a plan but when you give money to the government where do you think some of it ends up? There is a solid reason why Thai people like to work for the government. You buy your way in but you do that for a reason. 9
Popular Post darksidedog
Give the money to who? The Government? Nice idea, but it would simply mean the bigger crooks at the top of the tree can siphon off even more than they do now. Leaving the cops out of pocket forcing them to extort even more people than they do now. Folks at the bottom will get fleeced for even more while receiving even less. Thailand is a 3rd world/emerging country simply because so much of its potential is endemically being stolen by those who are in a position to do so. Don't expect things to improve any time soon either. I don't like to make that statement, but it is a true reflection of reality. 9

In the Philippines, dozens of Lambos, Ferraris, other pricey cars, were seized from drug dealers, then crushed by the govt. Their reasoning was, as you say, if liquidated they would then be repurchased by other nefarious folks, or even the same folks once they get out of jail. Why not then export them to the US, Europe, or Middle East, then have the money sent back to build some decent housing, instead of all those slums? Absolutely mind blowing. Good points made here and if Thailand doesn't curb the corruption it will never get beyond a developing country stage. However do you think for 1 minute that these guys are going to stop what they have been doing for years and sadly which elected leaders are going to enforce anti corruption policies when most of them are benefiting? To them it would be liking "cutting off their nose to spite their face" as the saying goes. The General assured the people in his election promise that he will stamp it out, I wonder when he is going to start? Corruption is Thailands archillie's heel and if they ever manage to put it behind them this place will definitely be paradise despite the road driving habits which I can live with.
xtrnuno41
Ah Babythai, you woke up. Good thing, but maybe 2 years ago there was the story in Asean Now about the Thai military elite group of having BILLIONS on their own. They had restaurants, hotels, malls, houses and so on for many years. You see that money flowing back to Thai citizens? NO. It came out by accident and after that they returned all to the government, so the story told, I wonder Never red anything about holding high ranked military held responsible, loosing their job for that. Or even really being investigated. The story also gave away, that the pm (military) could still live in "his" military house, due to "doing good things for Thailand". Not long ago, you could read in Asean Now, the pm (military) was a very wealthy man compared to his income. He also has 100-dreds of millions in cars , houses, bank accounts and so on. What they did do, is investigating the money on the opposition party FF, find "an error" in that and kill opposition complete. All members of that party can never have a function in government ever. But saying this, it is just common all over the world, with any government. An example of another country is India, they spend billions on space thingy's. Not on their people. Why? As they gave for a reason, was, that if you spend it on Indian people, they could only buy a cup of tea for them. So why then dont blow it away then in ....space.

The Deerhunter
If theory was extracted as a fine pr a fee for government services then it might well be seen as theft as a servant which is a serious crime in most civilized countries! That's almost saying enough, because of course, TIT!!!!!!! and of course no Thai policeman is likely to ever be found guiltily of that or anything else, including probably, MURDER!! rudi49jr
Whatever you do with that money, do NOT give it back to the government, because then you can be absolutely sure that it will pass through many sticky hands and at least half that money will disappear. 1

It is what it is and always been. What most of us...initially...loved about it here. Now what most of us loathe. Can't fix 3rd world stupidity, greed, corruption, silliness, bad attitude and unwarranted sense of superiority, etc. Just gotta accept and roll with it. I don't think you read the news correctly. Those stolen vehicles were seized as illegally imported autos meant to skirt high import duties, same as in Thailand. The customers were wealthy class, not drug dealers. And how exactly would you export them without proper ownership documentation? If one tried, the legal owners would sue for return or compensation.
