Forty eight people were arrested after a raid on a resort in Koh Samui during the early hours of Saturday morning (Sept 11).

Police carried out the raid after receiving a tip off that a party was taking place.

Of those arrested, 27 were foreigners and 21 Thai nationals, Daily News reported.

All those arrested were charged in relation to violating Thailand’s Disease Control Act and the restrictions in place to limit the spread of COVID-1. They were taken to Bophut Police for processing.

Meanwhile, police said they also carried out separate raids on two restaurants on the island which were found to be serving alcohol to customers.

The owners of the restaurants face charges for violating Surat Thani’s provincial order on COVID-19 restrictions.

Last month, Bophut police also announced that 24 people had been arrested at a party on the island.

Recovered/Discharged (Globally):  (98%).  These people at the party are stupid for ignoring the current rules no doubt, but come on, possibly overly dramatic?

  • Not a sandbox, but a sandtrap.

Indeed...  I was just at a restaurant.. about 40-50 people, music, good food... not really any social distancing..  On Phuket....   most were probably local Thai’s and Foreigners, I was a ‘Sandboxer’.

People never learn. This is what we call 'the last supper' before they get hospitalized.

And others just love virtue signaling.

Samui wants to open up while having these restrictions.no problem.

Best to stay hidden away in my home ,up here in the rice patties with my trusty ole bottle of 70% ,facemasks and 2 shots of Pvax, until the restrictions are lifted.

Just down the road I saw a ‘restaurant’ (which was more of a bar) with 2 people in it and the Police there. I’m not sure what the police were doing (we can all make that assumption and mostly right most of the time).

Samui is part of the SandBox....  Samui Plus....  So is this what the incentive is for tourists ? enjoy yourself and you’ll get arrested ?

YES, I get it, we’re in a pandemic, or coming out the back end of one - but the ’Sandbox’ is the test to evaluate how well a community copes with foreign arrivals on the basis that all foreigners are vaccinated and 70% of locals are.

So....  why are people being arrested ??...

...... And... This whole ’alcohol attack’....  The puritanical hypocrisy is outrageous...  people getting arrested for drinking a beer...   something is going very very wrong.

In 50 years time we’ll be looking at photos and thinking wow... Thailand was a cool place.

We look back on photos of Iran in the 60’s and think wow... it looks like a great place to be.

Its a fairly recognisable mentality of ’Thai officialdom’... target the easily isolated with ‘faux outrage’....

And... For the record...  While Sandboxing in Phuket, 10 days in, I’ve found 2 restaurants which do not serve beer - the paper cup, plastic cup, can of coke by the side, in a coconut... etc etc.. thingy is going on everywhere and everyone knows that.

Samui is very likely to be the same.

This whole “found to be serving alcohol to customers”...... SO WHAT ???? really.... So very very very SO WHAT ?....

Being hospitalized doesn't mean you will definitely die. Many recovered while in hospital but they still have to suffer the effects of having difficulty in breathing etc.

What do you think those oxygen tanks are for?

You need armed guards to protect good booze from neighbors.

Welcome to Thailand. We hope you enjoy your vacation. Alone, in your hotel room. But, please won't you leave your credit card at the door for us. If feel bad for anyone coming here as a genuine short term tourist, but you also have to be quite an idiot not to do a little research beforehand. This is no place to be for 2 week holiday unless you enjoy masochism.

I think in Thai it's called "The Last Ghin Khao"

My last time was Jan 87. Each rule they make is something the Police is happy about, nothing to do with common sense nor enforcing.

They brought in the clowns in brown for the party.

And they expect tourists to come,  unbelievable.

When did all the farang on this forum become such p…ys? Arresting people for enjoying life, after full knowing 1.5 years on of the possible risks, while cheering on the corrupt cops. Pathetic. My guess is your voting for Prayut’s re-election.

IMO - this shows the lack of balance and the hunger to throw sanctimony from the perch of superiority without really thinking about it....

In Phuket and Samui (reportedly) 70% of the people are vaccinated and they are pushing the SandBox / Samui Plus based on this fact.

Thus - any ‘gathering’ is hardly high risk, especially IF all those present are fully vaccinated (note I wrote: hardly ‘high’ risk and not ‘no’ risk - 100% of risk cannot be avoided).

That said: IF the same gathering occurs in Bangkok or any other red zone where there is an ongoing outbreak, then that is reckless.

Intelligent balance - given the current situation: Nothing wrong with a party in Samui or Phuket, but as things stand, there is something wrong with having a party in a noted ‘red zone’ such as Bangkok.
