The 17 year old high school student who robbed a gold shop in a shopping center on Rattanathibet Road has been bailed out for 15,000 baht by her school director.

The teen armed with a knife stole more than 800,000 baht in gold jewelry from a shop in Big C before she was arrested.

Police have charged her with armed robbery with a knife while having her face covered and being armed with a knife in public.

Yesterday the director of Don Muang Taharnakard Bamrung school Padet Utumasakunrat arrived at Rattanathibet police station with the school's welfare department rep Chatraporn Arunbutr.

After getting bail Padet apologised for not looking after the pupils very well, reported Sanook. He said that the student had good grades - a better than 3 point average and had never got zero.

She was a quiet child, he said.

Chatraporn said that the school was liaising with the educational authorities on catering to the mental health needs of the pupil after bail in the sum of 15,000 baht was tendered.

She was stressed but not seriously and would go home where she would be looked after and further assessed.

Earlier reports suggested that the teen may have got into debt through online gambling.

No student in the Thai system has ever received a zero unless they go to an international school.

I wonder what my daughter will get, or if she will have to do the grade over next year considering she went 2 whole days this year and the teacher told me school will start again next year.

A good friend of mine is head of the English department at a large bilingual school. They are all scrambling to try and maintain online progress (which everyone admits is a poor second to in class teaching). Essentially, the first semester is a bust. They're not even going to pretend to give midterm exams. Everyone will pass. I imagine your daughter will, too.

only one person has taken the attitude that the Principal has acted correctly.

And why do you think that all the rest believe otherwise?

Answers on the back of a postcard please!

As to be expected on T V only one person has taken the attitude that the Principal has acted correctly. The damage that keyboard warriors can do is immense and also without consequences .

Well unfortunately so many Thai school directors have been caught (some not) many times, up to illegal behaviour, they don't really command much respect now. Still I think this young girl will forever be in his debt for helping her. init.

This is a ballsy move. This principal is doing the right thing for his student. Kids are stressed like never before by school closures. No apology necessary for any failure in Thai education. This simple act of kindness gives me hope for Thai schools. Kids are worth saving.

I would agree with you if it was not for the fact that she had a knife, she would not have had a knife unless she was prepared to use it, if she had not had a knife and was just caught shoplifting, then I would have had a bit more sympathy for her.

Fined for wearing a mask in public??

No, nowhere near what was said.   She has not been to court yet so, obviously, she has not been fined.  What was said was that  she "was charged with armed robbery with a knife while having her face covered".   Or, perhaps I am just overlooking your sarcasm?

How astute of you, perhaps if I had said "charged" you may have understood it

Why would that be?  And, if it's so obvious, why don't you have the balls to say what your first insinuation actually means?

How astute of you.  It's always best to say what you actually mean, that way other people know what you actually mean.

By other people I guess that means you, and" quite frankly my dear I don't give a damn".
