A smiling chief of Immigration in Thailand Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang presided over a press conference at Suan phlu HQ to announce the arrest of a Russian man in Koh Samui for dealing drugs.

An informant in Bo Phut reported a man for selling drugs to foreigners on Samui island and Koh Phangan and to foreign youngsters living there, too. He was also holding drugs parties at his villa.

A vinyl board suggested this was Eagle Nest.

Biometrics capabilities of the IB soon confirmed that the man was a Mr Konstantin wanted on an Interpol Red Notice dor drug offences in Russia.

On seeing the officers Mr Konstantin dashed for the inside of the luxury villa where he rented.

Officers presented their credentials aware that he was likely trying to get rid of drugs on the premises.

A search revealed plenty of illicit substances in a safe and desk of a bedroom. Bankbooks were taken into evidence.

The Russian admitted the drugs were his and he had got them through the post from a Russian called Mr Ramis. It had cost him 55,000 baht.

He admitted to supplying two groups of foreigners on the islands and holding illegal parties.

He was charged with possession with intent to sell Class 1 and 2 narcotics.

55,000 bahts worth of drugs?? That would get you about 4 ounces of weed in London. He's hardly El Chapo or Pablo Escobar is he? Hardly worth a press conference let alone the attention of the Immigration Head Honcho.

Insane stupidity.

Yep, in a country that is notorious for its bad prisons and which will give you the death penalty, although that will be converted to 25 years if you sing and comply, it is absolutely cretinous to be dealing drugs, especially in larger amounts! I’ve read somewhere a long time ago that the US multiply every year a US citizen has spent in a Thai prison by 5 to make up for the hard circumstances. Which means, for example, if a US citizen has been sentenced to 30 years and he has spent 6 of those in a Thai prison and afterwards they would send him home to spend the remainder of his sentence in a US prison, the US would set him free.

It really beggars belief the stupidity of some people.

I mean low level drug dealers are generally not the sharpest tools to begin with, but to try to set up business on a small Thai holiday island as a foreigner, and think you won't get ratted out in no time is idiocy as it's most idiotic.

At least he'll have plenty of time to brush up on his Thai.
