The MGB was a massively outdated and unreliable car and quite fittingly was booted out of the international market by Datsun/Nissan and other Jspanese manufacturers.

4 pot indeed!

Strange how the USA imported most of them, eh. Production of the MGB/C/V8 ran from 1963 to 1981, so you really are talking cr@p. By then it was outdated.

What's with the "4 pot indeed"...?  🤔

Yes, my Nissan Maxima was a fun little car to sport around in ... and ... dependable.

As was my wife's Datsun 310.

Even my Firebird was surprisingly dependable, for Detroit POS.

My Nissan pickup, tasked with towing was also great.   The only new vehicle I ever bought in USA.

You're not comparing like with like.

Look at the Datsun 240z and the Mazda Mx, Toyota Celica, MR2 even the Honda S500–S800, the Honda S2000 - the MG was in production from the ealy 1960s (when it wasn't even then very startling) until 1980 before they realised it was a waste of time.

OMG ... they're everywhere.  I can not deny nor confirm, if the dirty one is ours, although we did just come back from an O&A.

The thought of MGs in abundance on the road, may be disturbing to many.   OK, maybe just one, but, rest easy and try to get some sleep ...

Not sure why it’s a surprise – the Japanese companies are struggling, the Europeans and Americans never showed much interest or couldn’t make it work so now it’s the Chinese’s turn. As ever the west sits back and just watches and slags off products that are in fact much more suited than anything from the West.

BYD has a large factory in Rayong province that is expected to produce 150,000 vehicles per year. Also SAIC Motor, Hozon Auto, Great Wall Motor Manufacturing

There are over 500 Chinese firms in Thailand now

The Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Park and the Amata City Rayong industrial estate are home to many Chinese companies.

hi,

Also the world complaining about the chinese leadership selling everything to the rest of the world, but then they buy chinese cars when EU cars or even Japanese are so much better ?

This world is weird...

Sounds like what they were saying about Japanese cars in the seventies. By the time they woke up everyone was driving Toyotas and Hondas. Same is happening now with Chinese cars now.

While not an MG, just another Chinese vehicle nonetheless to shed some light on this topic:

400 plus mileage? I'm guessing that even in km that represents good quality and longevity - what's not to see?

europe is losing the car war, of course America was never really in it.

Yes, I meant  shedding light

So, they have a whole video to say the car goes 400 km on a charge?

no! 433,000 km overall mileage and all major components still running

a wider range of vehicles than the whole rest of the owrld put together.

I had a '99 GMC Sierra that did that.

I have to watch a three-hour video to know that? They seem to have a new brand every ten minutes.

I only need two cars, and I only buy one every three or four years.

1 - no you didn't

2 trying to suggest that was the norm in th US is just false - that would have been a very rare example in the US - how much of the factory fitted parts would still be in pristine condition?

Yes I did.

I am not suggesting it's the norm.

Only consumables had to be replaced.

433,000km is about 270,000miles, and Sierra was at over 300,000 miles when my brother-in-law sold it.

You really are absurd - you didn't even own it.

Mine was an Indigo blue  '99 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE short-bed standard cab.

Here's one for sale today, a couple years newer, extended cab, 314,138 mi (505,556km)

Sorry to hear that. I generally don't like to see people suffer.

Yeah, just watching is not enough for you, you want to make them suffer, yes?

It was the first new vehicle I ever owned. I was on my way to a Toyota dealer to by a new 2-door Camry, drove by the lot, saw it, loved it, drove it, owned it (with the bank) an hour and a half later.

First year on the new platform and GM had gone all out. I did all the service myself, and it was the best vehicle I ever owned. I only had it a few years and ended up selling it to my sister a couple years after I relocated to Thailand.

MG cars. Designed in the UK (Longbridge) to the latest European/UK safety standards. Built in Thailand, a country with a good reputation for build quality.

What's your problem @leba?

You make some good points in your post and as another has posted, I remember the first time the Japanese motorbikes were introduced into the UK, in the early 60s and they were laughed at by the "traditionalists" saying that they sounded like sewing machines and wouldn't last – – well they did and I've even seen one from that era here in Thailand. They made a welcome change from the noisy, rattling, oil leaking monsters that were being produced in the UK.

Now onto this subject; I'm in my 78th year and all I need a car for is to stay dry and to get from A to B reliably and that's it primary function, hence the reason I bought a Suzuki Swift and have never regretted it for one moment. It is also a mechanically sound car!

When I was younger it was a lot different and I wanted a car that I could "show off" or later on would "match my status" (my words), so it started with a Lancia Thema, then BMWs from the 318iS. to the 525, then on to the Mercedes 350 SL, Saab Aero and finally the Audi V6 Quattro.

Out of that lot I liked the Saab best of all, but now I'm here in Thailand and back to my original point, just need to get from A to B safely and in some comfort, so I would have no hesitation in buying one of the smaller MGs, should something happen to my dear old Suzuki Swift.

"Cherry" to you! 🤣

People buy them, simply tired of being ripped off, by legacy auto makers, for over priced and under performing POS.

All these major price cuts, as they try to stay in the market with CN, and surly they're still making some profits.  That's how over priced they were in past.

MG ZS EV Launched June 2019 priced  1.19 million baht.

I think you posted last year that your wife went to a dealer where she was quoted price of B599K for MG ZS EV D model
