Three educational institutions in several provinces were ordered closed after reportedly being found with suspected Covid-19 cluster infections among students, teachers, and school officials.

In Lampang province, Thoen Technology Vocational College in Thoen district was closed for one month after 10 students were reportedly positive for the virus.

According to proactive health screening results, one out of 83 vocational students was confirmed infected via the RT-PCR test on October 29th. The initial disease investigation revealed that the student was living at the college’s dormitory with another 13 students who were considered in a high-risk group.

Der, could they not see that one coming ?

Two of our kids got vaccinated on 1 November, the school wanted them to start school straight after the vaccines, as if that was going to happen, they will go after 14 days.

The others are not vaccinated yet and won't be going before mum gets vaccinated with Moderna, shortly we hope, or if they get around to doing 12 year olds before mum gets vaccinated then she can also return to school 14 days after being vaccinated, as for the little one who is 7, she can return after mum gets vaccinated, simple really.

In the meantime, it's homework sent from school for all to do and these two "forced" school teachers have big canes to keep them in line.

With low testing and general fear of being tested positive they should stop the random testing, if they want things to stay open.

Right.  Just let covid run rampant and perhaps force things to shut down again.  Not a good thing to do.

Opening up is allowing more to interact, and with the low vaccine rate, allows the virus to spread.  We've seen this play out many times.  UK, US, etc, etc, etc.

Covid is rampant everywhere, like the normal flu. So many will have had it without even realising it... and with 1% or less having issues or dying, then at some point we are going to have to take our chances, or suffer economic and social/cultural collapse. I sometimes obviously wonder, if this is just being used as an opportunity for control... in good old style everywhere, especially in Asia.

That 1% is a false statistic.  As mentioned above, estimates are now around 17MM deaths from Covid.  But you're right, we're going to have to take our chances as covid will never go away.  Thus, the reason we need more to be vaccinated.  About the only thing we can do to protect others and our families.

VERDICT

False. Contrary to social media claims, COVID-19 death rates for the world and the United States (calculated by recorded fatalities and cases) exceed 1% as of September 2021.

The number of people who have died from covid-19 is likely to be close to 17m

The official tally of 5m is a huge undercount

Same here in Issan. One school recently opened, and oh man you should've seen the town come back to life. Many businesses and shutters I had seen closed for months were open again. All the streets were buzzing with cars, motorbikes, tuk tuks, songthaews carrying students. The kids spend their pocket money, their parents who come drop them off and pick them up do their shopping and dining. The schools are an unbelievable driving force behind the local economy. Then Covid cases were reported, the school was shut, and now the town's back to how it was before. Terrible.

it would appear that when mass testing is actually carried out they are finding cases, just shows how rampant covid is in the community - if schools were not opening none of these would have been uncovered

Makes you wonder how true the national positive test figures are?

Strange how they suddenly halved leading up to November.

Test and you will find that's the reason for the tiny number of tests conducted in LoS and the reason Thailand with a population the size of the UK and a small number of fully vaccinated has lower rates than the UK of death and serious illness, not rocket science...

Simply stated and of course true

Seems inevitable.  There's going to be a point where they just have to accept it.

A good first step would be to ensure that teachers keep masks on and kids don't take their masks off and go and eat in large groups squashed together after school, but TiT...

Unfortunately, part of the new normal is social distancing and mask wearing, but this seemed to be quickly forgotten once dining in was allowed.

Like herding cats......not anywhere near reality. The 'social distancing' last time was a total joke. I dont see it being any better this time. Rock and a hard place. You can do all the social distancing you want in the class. Once the kids are out and packed back into song taews....vans...what ever its all been for diddly squat. Time for a new plan.

That's it then. Back to the old faulty body temp thermometers. Country is opening up. Most people aren't fully vaccinated. Must stop infections happening therefore must stop testing. Not really that far to go to have zero testing from the amount being done here. Sorry. Being cynical. People's lives are being put at risk due to a completely botched vaccination regime by a completely corrupt and inept military government. Experts warn a high level of caution at 70 even 80% of the entire population being double vaccinated before openning. Not here. Reminds me of the big flood. US navy here in Thailand. US navy says we can help. Thailand says we do not need your help. Thailand goes under water. 800 or so people died and thousands of homes were lost.

@dinsdale these schools have shut when the teachers and students have been vaccinated, so you're not even talking about the subject in the story.

Yup , it is the Children of Thailand who are finally getting vaccinated, but  lets open the

school, because the parents need to work, and only the grand parents are home to watch

over those children.   Lets not worry about this contagious virus called COVID, that makes

most people pretty sick, and has killed over 5 million plus, so far.

Then COVID gets detected in schools. Surprise, surprise!  How did that happen?

Geezer

Nonsense. “Most people” don’t even know they have it, or have mild symptoms.

The sky is not falling.

It's a total nonsense if they're going to start closing schools again as soon as anyone tests positive.  Covid will be around for many years to come.  Education really doesn't seem to be important in Thailand.

Yes, that is apparent!
