I typically go for pints. It seems most economical: 100 baht a pint vs 90 baht a small bottle, you sometimes get a bad pint in certain pubs. Also, it warms up quickly.

I was in Sukhumvit today and I noticed it was probably 50/50 between the bottle and pint drinkers.

Just wondering, so I thought I'd do a poll.

So, bottle or pint? Or either, depending on .....?

I want the most alcohol for the least money.

So it would depend on the alcohol %, the price and the volume of the beer.

Bottled beer for me.

Interesting.

Why?

IMHO - Some beers taste about the same whether from bottles or draught, others do not.

For me, a Thai lager is a Thai lager so I would just go for the cheapest version (volume for volume).

But (for example) there is a huge difference between a pint of draught Guinness and the bottled version. I would choose the pint, even at twice the price.

So I voted "Either, depending on ......"

If you're 20yo and living in the 1980s.

Forget beer, Lao Khao will give you best value.

Thai pint.

That seems to be 500ml in many places, so not a pint at all.

Take a look at your survey results and you will find the answer.

Like mini-quarts at Swenson's.

I'll drink pints because it's usually cheaper but Asian lager is flat.

Yeah, we should start a thread on which pubs pull the best pint.

I'd put my money on the Red Lion.

Chequers is fine too and Fitzgerald's.

Other Soi 4 bars, maybe bottles are the better choice.

Ahhhh yes, I too remember the good old days when the choice was bottle or pint instead of plastic cup or coffee mug.

Prefer pints, but very flexible depending on what they serve, and how well the draught pumps are serviced etc.

Ideally a real pint of real beer in a real straight glass pulled by handpump.

Reality is a box of large Leo on the balcony and a bucket of ice.

No handle on the glass.

Ha...that is the one I always go for on the same basis.

Sorry, I prefer a Barrel. No long ways, no waitings for refill a Glass or look for a bottle.????

The problem with him, as the same for me, we prefer wine, and that have the highest price unfortunately.

Its 10% more than a US pint...

In general terms, I prefer draught beer to containers, be it cans or bottles....which do not taste the same as each other, or the draught. Cans of so called draft don't count, even if they have an explosive gassy thingy inside!

Quantity wise, bigger is generally better, but value for money does count for something. Common formats are 330ml, 350ml, 495ml, 1pint, 500ml, 1litre

Not all beers are available in all formats:- it is more important that I actually

    a)like,  and

    b) can afford,

the contents!

The range of imported draught beers has drastically reduced over recent years, and increased in price proportionally.

On the other hand, I doubt that I could afford to drink in a British pub these days!

Nothing good ever came out of a bottle. Except Worthington White Shield, of course.

Mugs are all the rage in pattaya or is that those who arrive on a thailand pass
