Featured Replies

And now Checkpoints starting again in Phuket area..

So does the police harrasing your there? .. pulling the 1k ticket for "illigal modification"

Going for a monthly trip tp Phuket so will be helpful if i know the status down there !  . . .
Might be worth putting the original cans on.

OP - I guess that you are a teenager?   If or when you grow up you will realise what a selfish antisocial idiot you are, but will no doubt find some other way to annoy those around you!

That reminds me that when I was a kid, we put clothespins on the wheel to make the bicycle sound like a moped.

Yeah we used old baseball cards or cards from a poker deck.

One of the most moronic posts in the history of moronic posts.

As annoying as they are loud exhausts or no baffle do help drivers know you are around.

Particularly useful in countries like Australia where drivers often have no awareness whatsoever of motorcyclists.

Re police checkpoints here in Phuket..

I have seen only 1 here since the start of the year and i ride around a lot.

The one i saw was down after chalong circle heading to rawaii.

Even the checkpoint before patong hill hasn't been open.

As a resident of this planet, and Phuket in particular I am sick and tired of the total disregard and immature ego's of men who see the (immature want) or need to make their bikes as loud (seemingly) as they can thus disrupting and disturbing other motorists.

It's not cool, not macho, not manly, not hip, not mature to ride around assaulting others with your extremely loud bikes. It's actually pathetic and infantile.

It can be very scary to be passed by a modified and extremely loud bike as you ride or drive along. Not to mention the noise pollution (God knows don't we have enough of that in this world!) and the communities they ride through. I hope the 'boys in blue' persecute you lot to the max!

Harrassing??? These RIDERS harass all other residents of Thailand by their reckless behavior with their modified and noise-making motorcycles. Which, especially at night, when they remain undetected due to the darkness, fully crank their engines.

It is time for the police to confiscate all motorcycles that are louder than allowed. Bring this to the workshop, where new original exhausts are installed and the drivers / owners are billed for all costs.

Race modification on Thai roads? Can someone be more stupid?

I ride my Triumph almost every day between Patong and Rawai. I have after market pipes. They're loud but not obnoxious. I pass police road checks all the time and haven't been stopped in years, mainly because I always am wearing my helmet, jacket, gloves, etc. The pipes are of zero interest to the police whenever I have been stopped.

BTW, all the moaners about loud pipes can just go and f off.

My pipes are loud and legal. I'm 77 with my 18 year old maturity level.

"Loud pipes" aren't the problem.Obnoxiously loud pipes are,if it's the HDs or the little Hondas throughs,it doesn't matter.I have two Triumphs and a Kawasaki. One of the Triumphs has after market pipes and like yours, louder than stock but not obnoxious. There's a definite difference between loud and obnoxious

I never stop at checkpoints. Why would anyone do that? That's crazy.

Loud pipes do save lives but with that said loud and obnoxious are two different things. When in the city you don't have to run wide open, we know you are there, leave that for when you are not in the city. The last "BIG Bike" I owned was a Harley Davidson Dynawide with Vance and Haines shorties and more than once those loud (not obnoxious) pipes saved my ass from idiot drivers.

A New Study Confirms ‘Loud Pipes Save Lives’ Is a Safety Myth

Sometimes, it seems there are almost as many myths about motorcycle safety as there is genuine advice. And one that persists is the notion that ‘loud pipes save lives.’ I.e., the louder your motorcycle’s exhaust is, the safer you’ll be. But a new study has thoroughly debunked that.

Why Loud Pipes Don’t Save Lives

Loud Pipes Save Lives” is one of the most common motorcycle myths. And, unless you're living in a cave, I bet that you have a couple of friends who told you it works. But as much as we like a Screamin' Eagle sound or an Akrapovic Symphony, we have to admit that loud pipes don’t save lives.

Are loud motorcycles safer?

While some riders will stick to their defense of loud pipes as a safety feature, it would appear that the statistics from the aforementioned studies don’t support their claims. Loud motorcycles are not safer, and loud pipes don’t save lives.

These studies continue to make the same claims that loud pipes do not save lives but obviously Thailand has not been included in these studies. My loud pipes have saved pedestrians lives (walking in the middle of the road) numerous times while bikes making their typical no look entry onto a main road from a soi have done a double take if I do a quick throttle rev. I have saved lives.

Same could be said of someone hooting their horn on their bike or car though. thats what its there for.

Well of course, use the horn and my thumb is always ready to hit it.

But there are plenty of times where the pipes have been a positive safety tool, as well.

If you're legal you have nothing to worry about.

Don't listen to all the whingers and wa***s now crying out from their blue roofed cottage in Nakhon Nowhere. Loud pipes safe lifes. Period. Never had any issue coz of my very loud bike bike, they pick more on scooter gangs, if any at all. Don't overdo it , have your DL and paperwork in order and it's all good. Enjoy and ride on.
