Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Thursday) made clear that his government has no plan to close Thailand’s borders again, to prevent the spread of Omicron, while dashing hopes that pubs, bars and other entertainment venues can reopen before the set D Day of January 16th.

Gen Prayut said that he sympathises with everyone in the nightlife sector for the hardships they are enduring, but the concerns of other people and public safety has to be taken into account as well.

The January 16th date is already considered a postponement from the initial plan of allowing pubs and bars to reopen in December, and especially for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Well, apart from the livelihoods of a rather large number of people.

Omicron is going to be another excuse/reason that will allow him to delay past Jan 16.   Pattaya, in particular, is doomed.

  • The Usual conservatives talking nonsense.   Pattaya is great city.   Not all of us enjoy going to temples and banging fat women.

Nonetheless, they'll adjust and survive. As they always have.

The social and familial extensions are quite in tact here.

Which is better, Pattaya 80% dead like it is right now, or Pattaya 200% full like pre-covid in high season? I remember in high season going down for lunch at Central food court at half past eleven in order to be able to get a seat. I nearly had a fight with Indian guys once as they were blocking the last available seats for one of theirs. As for dinner, it was difficult to be welcome in popular eateries later than 5pm. Also, remember the nighttime noise until the small hours + the air pollution.

I recall getting turned down 3 times in a row at Patpong's King Castle (1 and 2) by girls who didn't want my money. It was Christmas time and they probably had even bigger (Asian) payers lined-up.

All was not well pre-covid either.

So you don't/didn't come to Thailand for the beaches, scenery, food and Bhuddist culture.

Try thinking that perhaps the idea of pattaya as a destination for sexpats is something that the majority of Thais don't like or want. Maybe you believe that pattaya needs/wants to be known as a big brothel.

To be honest I don't know how it will all end ref' pattaya night life, my feeling is the idea that it will change.

If that happens what will be your destination of choice? It will, I think be somewhere that you can find the hedonistic lifestyle you seem to want.

Yes.Their daughters are out selling themselves on the streets in huge numbers just so their families can survive. Im sure that justifies any delay in getting back to normal....for some!!!!!

Just thousands of jobs that helped support entire families throughout Thailand.

So basically what you're saying is you can't get laid without being in pattaya and paying for it. Any concern for peoples jobs being lost hasn't really got anything to do with it.

Well, to be honest I've never been turned down once never mind 3 times in the one bar in the one night.

Thailands sex industry and night life contribute as much 3% to the economy.

Thailand's biggest draw is its beaches and nightlife.

I always find it funny when that HiSo says, "I never pay for it".

You pay for it one way or the other.

I'm married and my wife and I enjoyed Pattaya.

It's lively and tons of great restaurants.

I find temples boring and Thai street food is garbage.

Temples churches chapels etc and anything to do with religion I find boring as well. Street food I've never liked and don't understand why people get all excited about it.

However there is a lot more to living in Thailand than spending time and money in rows of bars where 99% of the girls are 'on the game' and don't care if you live or die as long as you spend money on them.

Nice to go have a little of everything.

Thats what makes Thailand such a blast!

Anyway I live in Issan.  It's exciting to be able to get a pizza once in a while!

Enjoy your weekend!

Still the unanswered question.

If the nightlife as was doesn't come back where will all the 'tourists' who came here for that nightlife go?

Actually I got turned down twice in one of the King's Castles, then a third time in the other one. And mind you, the Mamasans waved down the girls all right, but the no way.

For some time I thought maybe I was too old for this game, but some months later I was in Sao Paulo where the quality of the line-up was insane even compared to the top BKK gogos, and guess what? Zero rejection there, all garotas more than happy to do business with me.

It's everywhere anyway.

You can strike up a conversation in BigC or Amazon Coffee house and get a date.

Beach road in Pattaya and any other beach area is littered with gorgeous Thai girls wanting to learn a little English.

Sex as you know is the oldest profession in the world.

However indirect jobs? Street vendors, motorcycle riders, etc. and their impact on the economy? My Motorcycle repair shop was lamenting lack of business. No more thousands of motorcycle riders ferrying working girls and no more motorcycle repair. My barber was saying before she could easily afford a 40K per month rent and now she can't even afford a 10K rent.

Dominoes effect for sure.

Even that money sent home has dried up.

Mom and pop shops shutting there doors.

COVID-19 has hurt everyone and every country.

We're going on a little break to Hua Hin next week to do our part in helping the economy!

I think Thailand as tourist destination would be finished for another 10 years if they closed again. Not merely from the total destruction of the infrastructure and businesses but from foreign tourists not wanting to risk more closures and being stuck in Thailand on the basis of somebody sneezing in Peru !

Currently as far as we all know, more people are dying on thai road than of Omicron
