Supreme Court sentences construction tycoon Premchai to two and a half years

Featured Replies

I imagine that as they have given him a Covid test, he will need to be quarantined until the result is known......hence the tag.  No doubt an upmarket quarantine hotel, poorly guarded with many back doors!

  • Are they now in prison?

  • They should put him in the jungle for 2 and a half years and allow hunters to try to find and shoot him.

  • Dont care what anyone says, there is no <deleted> way he is doing 2.5 years in general population like your average Somchai.

I hope they were remanded immediately, and not allowed to be out on bail getting their affairs in order ie... A fast Gulf Stream 6 to head to Dubai......

What's the betting he goes inside then gets a doctors note for poor health and to be released on medical issues.

If I was a betting man, I would be putting money on him not spending any time in  general prison cell.  Limo waiting to take him to the airport?

No escape once you've been sentenced in person. If he was going to be allowed to escape abroad it would have been before sentencing, or they could have overturned his sentence.  Why would they uphold the sentence, have him carted away and then let him go??

So all these people who think he's got a limo or plane on standby are wrong - he's going to jail.

I think the man already has a history of poor health so will be probably allowed to serve his sentence in hospital as previously happened with another prominent prisoner.

Has he been hospitalised these past months?. If not then why now?

His pilot must be warming up the jet engines as we speak now.. :whistling:

Somehow i get the feeling he's going to have the nicest cell in the prison and with all the perks and "visitations" he'll desire...

I remember a VIP being sentenced to prison a few years ago. He spent a few hours there before 'falling ill' and being transferred to a fancy hospital suite. Then, as usual, the media lost interest and I don't know how long he was there.

Now - will they defer his sentence to house arrest or simply parole?  Does Thailand have a country-club prison for the wealthy?  This story isn't over imho.  Not in a country with a known two-tiered justice system.  If he actually does the time for the crime?  Then my respects to both Thailand and Premchai for not doing a Red Bull Runner.

I believe it when I see it.

He's been preparing a medical pardon ever since he showed up to court in a wheelchair, now it's a wheelchair and huge eye bandage. Once in prison, it will be easy for doctors to say his condition is deteriorating and he'll be pardoned for medical/age reasons. Pardon my cynicism.

The Nation is not carrying the story either.   Is something happening behind the scenes?

The Nation "Breaking News" is now carrying the story - misunderstanding as quoted below:-

SC sentences Premchai to a total 3 years 2 months in prison for poaching, hunting

The latest sentence was announced due to the prosecutor's misunderstanding earlier in the day that the Appeal Court had revoked the charge for allegedly concealing a wildlife carcass, which could have resulted in an eight-month reduction in the sentence handed down to Premchai and his two accomplices.

Funny how so many people promulgate the myth that there are special cells with perks in Thai prisons.  There aren't.

They're called prison hospitals.

I wonder why his sentence was less than the two working for him, just worked it out silly me.

Because he only conspired the trip, paid them and shot the animal. Sheessh so obvious. Give the poor guy a break.

A Thai friend has assured me that Premchai's stay will be less like the Bangkok Hilton prison and more like the Bangkok Hilton hotel.  Private room with all the amenities not offered to the general population.

Let us not forget that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health is one of the owners of the Cie Sino-Thai Engineering. This will explain it!

At 64 years old and in relative poor health this could very well be a life sentence.

The animals that were killed no doubt had good health, but received a death sentence.  Let him reflect on that!

You are vegan?

So, can we assume you are total vegetarian, have never eaten anything that you can class as animal, or do you use the same excuse as Thai Buddhist use - I didn't kill?

Som Nom Na.  For once money and who you know does not work!

There's absolutely NO chance this mega-rich guy does hard time. Of course, had he been old money instead of a brown skinned upstart this case would never have gone to court.

They put him in Thong Pa Phum prison so it will convenient for the widowed mate of the panther he murdered to come and visit him.

There are certainly "better" cells in Western Australia.

Been to visit & although behind barbed  wire, Alan Bond's cell was 40m2 with ensuite & very nice grounds

available through an unlocked door

The rich do not do jail time in Thailand. It will be interesting to see how he weasels out. Anyone want to bet that he does not do one day?
