The Thais certainly understand Santa Claus and Christmas trees and gifts and Jingle Bells ("jinga bel").

If you really need to explain the theological backstory, there is a version of Monty Python's Life of Brian available with Thai subtitles.

Hardly surprising that she couldn't understand what you told her!   Maybe you should get someone to explain to you what Christmas was about originally, it has never been about "three wise men and a virgin" [sic].  It is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.  Just the same as Buddhists commemorating Buddha's birthday/life, Visakha Puja.

LOL. The usual posters rushing to post anti religious posts without thinking about the real story.

"In another early text, The History of Joseph the Carpenter, which was composed in Egypt between the 6th and 7th centuries, Christ himself tells the story of his step-father, claiming Joseph was 90 years old when he married Mary and died at 111."

Poor Joseph gets a bad rap. If not for him marrying Mary she'd probably have been stoned for having sex outside of marriage, and the entire Jesus story would never have happend.

As it is, other than the mention at the start, he seems to vanish from the Bible once they return from Egypt. Does Jesus call him father etc. I guess he dies before Jesus becomes a preacher, as never mentioned again. Even Jesus's mother just gets a last sentence or two before he dies.
