BANGKOK, Dec 28 (TNA) – About 23 million Thai people shared fake news over the past two years, according to the digital economy and society minister.

Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, said the Anti-Fake News Center of his ministry was set up on Nov 1, 2019, and as of Dec 23 it found that 1,167,543 people posted fake news and 23,785,145 people shared it. Most of the people, 54.5%, who posted and shared fake news were 18-24 years old.

The center screened 455,121,428 messages and found 13,262 topics that needed verifications. Of them, 6,855 concerned health issues, 5,865 government policies, 282 economic issues and 260 disaster topics, Mr. Chaiwut said.

5,865 government policies,

Just as you do not agree with something does not make it fake news

How can we blame people when most of them are limited to a single language of communication? If they only communicate/consume Thai, hard for them to parse truth from fiction.

Yes, totally agree.

We have tools like Google Scholar etc to seek for clarity and knowledge, these days a simple Google search cannot be trusted.

Got to sympathize for the Thais

Just goes to show that big brother are watching everything people communicate about, and this is what they call a democracy.

Oh dear, what now? Prison capacity for 23 million more? Brilliant. A law enforcement, social welfare, jobs program all in one.

OK, so the thai security state is definitely not monitoring their citizens.

Yes, there indeed have been tons of fake news circulating, such as...

> weekly announcements by various ministries and government departments about the imminent arrival of millions over millions of foreign tourist;

> repeated announcements by a certain minister that "everything is under control" regarding Covid-19 and that "Thailand has managed the pandemic better than any other country in the world";

> regular assertions that Thailand were a  full-fledged democracy and a stalwart for the protection of human rights;

> frequent claims the country were a hub for this and a hub for that and a hub for... well... basically everything;

> and so on and so on.

The legitimate question is, of course: Have any of these  fake news sources been prosecuted by  the Anti-Fake News Center in accordance with the law? And if not, why not?

Dont forget > Farang responsible for spreading Covid-19

Who has the job of reading all these posts, deciding the opinion is fake and COUNTING it?!

The center screened 455,121,428 messages.

That is a gigantic number within 2 years.

That corresponds to 623454 messages per day. It is inconceivable that everything should be individual public messages. There would have to be a gigantic staffing level behind that, when every single message is actually read. Hard to believe that this number is true. Old Orwell would turn around in his grave.

What exactly was screened and in which sources remains unclear.

Hmm ... hard to define what is "fake news".

Really two types:

1. Sharing news you know to be fake, and

2. Sharing news you believe is true, even though it's ultimately found to be fake.

If only the Center could get inside the mind of the ones sharing ...

So who decides what is fake news and what is not..............the Ministry of Truth?

The Anti-Fake News Center, which employs 1,167,543 staff so nobody feels overburdened by their tasking duties.

Not really; Deep Learning technology can eat this stuff up in a heartbeat.

The main dissemination of lies comes from the USA from Facebook and YouTube. Russia  and China are big players too.

Does that figure include the Mumbo jumbo spouted by the bunch of Muppets, like Too, Nut Pipat etc.

When I follow up the pyramid ultimately it leads to the elite.

And you believe that a country which struggles to built a webpage for 90 day reporting or registration for COVID vaccination is able to do that?

I would like to add a third category, perhaps the most important from the Government's point-of-view :

3. News that is incompatible with the official narrative.
