Thailand's transport minister Saksayam Chidchob said that studies show that Thailand will be the 9th biggest aviation player in the world in terms of passenger numbers within ten years.

He reckoned that Thai airports - and Suvarnabhumi in particular - will be handling 200 million passengers by 2031.

Consequently with this anticipated rise he is pressing ahead with terminal, runway and ancilliary service expansion plans.

He called this an action plan.

In latest developments reported by Manager the minister said that he was ready to present IATA surveys to Anutin Charnvirakul the DPM who is chairing a committee on the matter.

This relates to the Eastern Expansion of Suvarnabhumi.

To follow will be the Northern Expansion of the Bangkok airport as per an ICAO survey currently underway.

  • Wow! Pie meet sky.   They'll need three more airports.   Planning for Suvarnabhumi started in 1973, it opened in 2006.

  • Really, I’d call it something much more robust and frankly unprintable on this forum.

" Handling 200 Million Passengers "

Maybe the Airports of Thailand will be handling that amount of passengers, but maybe only about 15 % of those will actually stay and spend money in the Country.

The vast majority of Passengers will be transit to other destinations.

This will only be true if a global war doesn't  break out by then.  Surely  holding China accountable  for the Virus, it's encroachment in others waters, and the Taiwan situation is at the most volatile.   Also Russia and the Ukraine plot, and the US has pledged to stand with Ukraine,  global issue are at a all time threat, and global war could happen.

“Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings
The six o'clock alarm would never ring
But it rings, and I rise
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings

Cheer up, sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean that
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen”

Another Thai Government official that is predicting the future 9 years from now.

  • Popular Post

If only the government could find a way to recycle these oft-revised meaningless plans there would never be a shortage of toilet paper.

...and with this statement he's protecting/justifying his position for the next 10 years !

Quadrupling current figures in just 10 years is bit of an imaginary stretch. It will take quite a visionary leader in the government to drive such a bold business plan. The government will need to come up with very unique attractions to attract passengers. Dubai and Singapore airports are attractive due to their cleanliness, comfort even indoor cinemas besides speedy connectivity through the terminals. Let’s get political stability and a visionary government before we can even think about this ambitious endeavor.

He knows it will be a hell of a long time before anyone can say you got it wrong again. If you can't predict correctly then predict way into the future when everyone forgotten what you said in the beginning.

Ha! Those Thais! Morons!

Should learn from hightech-Germany how to realize such an airport.

Berlin Airport:

Planning started 1997, costs forecast 0.55 Billion Euro

(Partly) opened 2020, costs 7.3 Billion Euro

Please don't dis-hearten the poor unfortunate souls, let them live their collective dreams - while they believe it, it keeps them away from the issues that must be addressed by real people.

Good news from 2031.

Restrictions will be lifted on the 15th of next month.

Promise.

200 million by 2031 not a ridiculous projection in my view :coffee1:

More Nosense from a Government full of it.    By the time the World gets to 2031 the Countries surrounding Thailand will have ploughed forward with all the progress needed to starve this country of decent numbers of Tourists as things here will never change or will move at a snails pace compared to others.    Only when they sort out their Politics and get a proper Democratic Government in place with genuine vision for the future instead of bloated hype will they progress.  Somehow i don't think it will happen in my lifetime; as i have been here for 15 years and seen virtually zero progress in any sector apart from making rich people even more rich !   By 2031 they will be one of the SMALLEST HUBS in The World.

I just come here to count laughing emojis in the opening post ????
