Thailand is facing the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic sooner than anticipated, with the curve of infections on a steep rise and body temperature scanners installed in most offices and public venues not catching asymptomatic cases, said Dr. Somsak Akksilp, director-general of Medical Services today (Wednesday).

 

Dr. Somsak was quoting a forecast by Dr. Sunt Srianthumrong, a special lecturer at the Graduate School of Environmental Development Administration of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).

 

He admitted that it is difficult to differentiate between an infection by the Omicron variant and flu, based on the symptoms, noting that, of about half of the Omicron cases are asymptomatic.

Better have a flu shot too before coming to Thailand.

He says 5th wave sweeping through Thailand, how do they know with just 3-4k case a day reported or are they hiding something in the reported figures?

a big hint might be that omicron is out of control in the rest of the world. Nobody is hiding anything. What's out of control is the conspiracy theories.

What math is there to do? That's 1 in 20 arriving positive with a mandatory hospital stay from what I am reading and the hospitals are full.

I think the chemicals in Chang would sort out any microbes present.

Well shake my tree, isn't it Flu season. All our test kits must be Chinese, send them back with any remaining sinovac vaccines.

Don't have to be an expert to realise Omicron is so infectous that it is almost certain everyone will catch it which hopefully will result in herd immunity. It is still very important to be vaccinated to reduce serious illness

The old formula would have made excellent anti-covid hand cleaner with it's high alcohol content.

A lot of neighbouring countries could learn from Singapore if they reach out and asked for help ..

With Christmas & New year a virtual free-for-all what else did they expect?

25% positive test results in Colorado.  Record high case numbers in Colorado and Utah today.   Utah 7400 cases for 3 million.   I drove past test station cars backed up 400 meters.

This is the major - and legitimate - concern,  See the UK, right now, for how things could quickly go pear shaped.

Such was my case. It was just like a heavy cold.

Second wave was December.  Third wave was April, and that's been going on until now.  I guess we could technically say that if Omicron takes over now that it might be the forth wave, if numbers shoot up?  Not sure how we jumped to the fifth wave.

UK seems OK.  High numbers but not too many serious cases.  Like South Africa, should peak and then fall due to natural immunity.

April to December is considered two waves, one for UK Alpha starting in April, which was wiped out by the huge Delta wave in June.  So Omicron will be the fifth, and possibly tsunamic wave.

I wonder when this medical genius will realise that it's also difficult to differentiate between an infection by the Omicron variant and the common cold, based on the symptoms, there's no need to invoke a flu pandemic as well, lol.

This from my understanding spread like a flu?  

What is lost from my perspective with all the talk,procedure,vaccine is people have forgotten surface and don't touch your face which is how the flu spreads with Omicron even faster? ???? with in general the hygiene or lack of in Thailand problem everywhere relative Thailand here it comes?  I thought Anutin said it was no match for Thailand!

among many,many others.  It is not so much that ominvirus is fatal, it is the sheer numbers.  0.1% of a huge number is still a very large number - and when many hospital staff have to take time off because they are unfit to work (though not so ill they themselves need hospitalisation) then thge hospitals can become overwhelmed....then what do you do if you fall and break a leg?

The elephant in the room is the number of cases. If symptoms of flu increase 5 fold it's a reasonable guess that it isn't the flu.

And why is that surprising if having high temperature IS  A SYMPTOM?
