Looking for a Norwegian forest cat in Thailand

Featured Replies

Hey, I’m planning to move to Bangkok in a few months time and looking for a Norwegian forest cat breeder or a pet shop that has one. I have been browsing through the internet for a quite a long time now but couldn’t find any breeder/pet shop that has them unfortunately:( Does anyone know where I can get them? Thanks guys:)

You might try here https://catthaiclub.com/แมวป่านอร์เวย์/ (obviously a Thai language site).

Are you really sure you want a moggie that's really intended to operate in arctic conditions?

Loads of lovely cats going free all over Thailand, ours (like most cats, we are actually her humans) just decided to move in, I think we have the best rats in the area.

From the linked website:-

Not a Cat that is suited to the Thai Climate at all, and if you managed to find one in Thailand, it would most certainly not be happy..

Find yourself ( or they will find you ) a local ratter which is much more suited.

Ours turned up under a Builders shack during an intense Storm, when the House was being built.

They kind of looked after her, and when they moved on , we just adopted Her.

Has turned out to be the most Loving Cat in the World, and follows Madam around as if she needs constant protection. Madams Security Guard, and on more than one occasion has warned the Missus about the presence of a Snake.

All the Love given is just a Mask for the Murderous side of her Nature. The Cats, not my Missus.

Nothing lives on our Land, and I mean nothing.

Rats , Ground Squirrels, Jhin-Jhoks, Birds, Centipedes, and even Snakes all perish

Cat like that in Thailand would be near to animal cruelty.

Not sure where you're moving from, but just imagine you running around with ski pants and a down parka in 30-40 deg C surroundings all day long. Now tell me you want a cat like that here. It's like these guys with their St Bernards and Artic Huskys, animal cruelty.

It is so much easier to find a Thai pussy in Norway than a Norwegian pussy in Thailand...

There are cats all over Thailand needing a good home.

There are pet shops at Chatuchak market that may be able to help you.  If you cannot find your Norwegian Forest Cat - you will definitely be able to purchase something much more exciting. Last time I was there, they had Caracals for sale, 20kg of wild cat - that will really get the neighbours talking (or running?)

Hello, thank you all for your thoughtful comments and concerns. Reading all your responses, it was so careless of me to want a cat that definitely won’t fit well in the climate in Thailand….. I’m currently thinking of adopting a cat from a shelter or getting a cat that originated from Thailand (eg siamese)

again, thank you all ????

You may even be able to get a Siamese cat from a shelter - no pedigree papers of course, but not at all uncommon for them to have cats with that appearance.

Having adopted (more accurately, been adopted by) many, many Thai cats in my years here I can attest to how wonderful they are. And those of mixed breed ancestry are, in my opinion, the best in terms of spunk, intelligence and personality. Also definitely healthier --  with any type of pet, pure breeds have more health problems.

Nature knows what it is doing when it mixes genes...and female cats know what they are doing (instinctively) when they freely chose a mate.
