Thai authorities searching for six European men who left Koh Chang after testing positive for Covid-19

They are trying to protect the tourism industry. People will not want to come here if they feel the ministry is not taking covid seriously. These clowns signed papers agreeing to follow CCSA protocols and they have skipped out on the agreement.

They appear, in fact, to have followed the agreement to the letter and shown up for the day 5-7 PCR test.

Since there are no Test & Go facilities on Koh Chang, this could not have been the initial PCR that is referred to.

But the thousands of people there already with covid are no big deal?  Do they think this is March 2020 with ~100 cases a day and they're going to trace and test all their contacts?  The pretense over

Apart from being stupid or retards, I don't understand why they would leave after testing positive???

1. They did nto leave. They were still on the island. (And in any case there is no restriction on traveling after having the day 5-7 repeat PCR test).

2. They had not been given their results. They had tests done, results came in positive, authorities went to contact them with the results and it took them a few days to find them (still on the same island).

Most people would understandably expect, having had a negative test pre-departure and then another negative test on the day of arrival, that their day 5-7 repeat test would also be positive. Until informed otherwise you can not fault these people and there is nothing in their behavior that suggests they were trying to flee.

They did follow the CCSA regulations. They entered Thailand, went to a testing facility, spent the night in a Bangkok area hotel. Got a negative result, went to Koh Chang.

They duly showed up for their day 6 test, and then went about their business, like everyone else.

When the authorities discovered positive results, rather than discretely searching the TM-30 files, they went public.

But, but, but we're the Aseannow justice society and we already clamored for their arrest, incarceration, deportation and blacklisting.

Now what are we supposed to do with our torches and pitchforks?

Every time I see something like this I wonder why I bother with the TM30.  Surely hotels file these, and any wayward tourists should be rounded up in about 30 seconds….

If the information that they are planning to visit Bangkok and Pattaya is correct, the damage (if any) would have already been done as soon as they get on the first public transport, of course if they make it into a hotel, bar or massage parlour!

Here's a better translation from a local source:

All 6 foreign Covid cases from Koh Chang were located. They all claimed not been informed that they were positive.  Now been in process.

FOUND and weren't trying to "run" it seems.

Where were they supposed to wait?

I think a lot of people here don't understand how Test and Go works.

Don't worry about the locals who test themselves with ATK, get a positive but then carry on working because it's do that or not eat/pay the rent or those that actually isolate but just pop down the 7/11 for a few things or order take out and have to go to condo reception to pick it up from delivery. I know this goes on because someone o know did this with 'Its ok, I wore a mask and not out for long'. This happens in every country, not just Thailand, but to vilify farang for it is the 'We are good, farang bad' save face scenario.

Dumb and dumber????. At least when they want leave the country , these heroes will experience their miracle????????????

These people will probably be fined and then banned from entering Thailand for x years.

It's just not worth it.

Whatever the true circumstances of this case are the story, as reported, does none of us any good.

I thought Thailand had tracking apps for this very reason???

All those TM forms, computer database, registering at hotels, the hotels registering you, scanning, Covid and immigration apps, and they still haven't found the other 3?

True. In the future it will be way more troublesome, expensive, and unpleasant to visit Thailand, even after Covid, so people may think twice before coming here.

Are not their phones registered and trackable?

They have their phone numbers, don't they? And if they have a Thai number, it certainly is trackable.

Yeah, right! How many people in Bangkok have Covid now, 20-30,000? (I mean total of currently 'active' cases, not new daily cases.) - Will the 3 they haven't caught yet, make a difference?

They entered the country under rules vaxed and test and go so they picked it up in thailand which is not a covid free country, it has already community and pourous borders transmissions, is there any other country in the world name and shaming different nationalites after testing positive and it issued the entry passes

Has anyone read the lates guidance from CDC?

Prior to Monday, people who were fully vaccinated — which the CDC has defined as having two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine — could be exempt from quarantine.

Those who are both fully vaccinated and boosted do not need to quarantine if they are a close contact of someone with COVID, but should wear a mask for at least 10 days after exposure. The same goes for those who are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible for their booster shot.
