webfact
A crowdfunding appeal has been started for the British man who survived last week's attack by a 22 year old man wielding a sickle, reports ASEAN NOW. The "Just Giving" appeal, started by Nicole Shaw, had raised about 40,000 baht out of a target of about 225,000 for Shaun Dagnan. The appeal said they were raising 5,000 pounds to "Help Daggy in Thailand". It continued: "On Saturday 15th January (actually it was 22nd) our friend Shaun Dagnan was subjected to a horrific attack whilst on holiday in Thailand as seen on the national news. His friend was sadly killed so we're very lucky to still have him with us after sustaining his very serious injuries. "His travel insurance has lapsed due to an unexpected extended stay. While he is receiving some support from immigration and the British consulate (embassy) this isn't going to be a short process. "We are trying to raise funds to help support with costs of medical expenses and recovery. Any donations and help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you". Earlier unconfirmed reports suggested that Mr Dagnan had been living in Thailand with his wife Pranee for three years. Mr Dagnan posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday that he was now out of hospital and home. He said he was still very poorly and very sore. Later pictures were posted Friday of what appeared to be the funeral of 49 year old Marcus Evans who died last Saturday. Several police officers were in attendance as monks chanted. Mr Dagnan said: "RIP Marcus my friend and a true gentleman. I'll miss our night time banter and you will surly (sic) be missed by many fly high and sweet dreams TOP MAN much love". A 22 year old Thai man, reportedly with mental health problems, is helping police with their inquiries in the western Thai city of Kanchanaburi. The story has made headlines throughout the world. Whilst I am sure we may all on occasions say if you have no insurance its your own risk with the hospital bills, it is appalling that someone has to worry about hospital bills after an attempted murder event by a Thai national ! This guy was not drunk, doing 80 on a rented bike down a curvy hill for heavens sake. It's now like a ransom after the event ! Still, I am sure immigration or the TAT will arrive with a nice bunch of flowers for a photo opportunity ! 32 2 4

It could be caused by a large variety of misfortunes, as life is a gamble every day we wake up. 30

ezzra
What i'm worried about is that there will be a day when the Thai government will force each foreigner coming to Thailand or staying in Thailand to have an insurance to cover such situations if such cases will continue to happen seeing that burden that situation like that brings upon the system... 4 2

An excuse often used by the RTP is that perpetrators have mental issues....often resulting in a lesser sentence....and maybe a reward for the police 8 1

I believe that the reality is that whilst they have been together for 3 years, they each have full time jobs (she as a chef) with Mr Dagnan visiting for a few weeks/months at a time. Because of the Covid circumstances, health insurance would also have been mandatory for the original duration of his current visit. 5

Your right and its always a lapsed insurance. So the guy did this to himself. However the hospital costs should be paid by the Thai attacker (not the government). Still its always the same lapsed insurance and then some excuse. 4 4 1

Popular Post Swampy999
"His travel insurance has lapsed due to an unexpected extended stay" Fake News ???????? By the look of his Facebook posts there were a lot of 'unexpected' sessions at bars and 'unexpected' 90 day reports. Do I pi$$ my money up the wall or maybe stay at home for a few nights and use the booze money for insurance, ain't exactly rocket science is it? 18 1 2

Popular Post JonnyF
Given the international coverage of this incident, it would be very wise if his hospital bills disappeared. The last thing Thailand needs is another Daily Mail story about "Brit ripped off by hospital after slashing murder in Thailand" headline. However, they're all in the bubble so expect lots of arguing over a few grand.

Popular Post riverhigh
I agree that the punishment doesn't fit the crime but I still hate people who go on holiday and feel they have the right to do anything without consideration of others. It reminds me of a group of young Russians who use to regularly buy booze at the 7-11, take over a vancant hair saloon, get boozed up, shouting and playing loud music up to 4 am. Eventullay it came to end. If the victim had indeed been in Thailand for 3 years he would know how weak the laws are for playing loud music late at nigt (3am) and took full advantage of the situation. I simply don't like these self-centred individuals. Edited January 29, 2022 by riverhigh 12 2
