The Thai government is exploring plans to encourage Thai vocational students to work in Saudi Arabia, after the resumption of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Last month, Saudi Arabia and Thailand announced the restoration of their diplomatic ties after over 30 years of conflicts arising from the diamond heist from a Saudi palace.

Suthep Kaengsantia, secretary-general of the Vocational Education Commission, said on Tuesday he will collaborate with the Labour Ministry to promote vocational students who meet Saudi Arabia’s workforce demand.

  • The more they write about it, the more sounds like human trafficking... Pimping out vocational kids to Saudi, and importing in slave labor from Myanmar.

  • Perhaps those thousands of vocational students protesting the government around Bangkok?

  • So graduate in Thailand and face no employment opportunities so jump on the ship heading north-west to be a slave. Nice work Prayut, is this how you take care of your children?

Yep, from the article:

"For over a year, the Thai vocational students have been spotted participating in multiple street rallies in tandem with the rise of Thailand’s pro-democracy movement."

I was sent a package from Phuket last week by express Currier and it took them one week to deliver it to BKK, why? not enough workers and we have like piles and piles of stuff to deliver the call center cried, and here Thailand sending workers to the Saudis...

This should help reduce the number inter-college fights on the streets. Can't wait for the Thai youths to encounter the Saudi authorities as they try on their entitled attitudes.

I wonder to what extent this is a matter of encouraging young people to work in Saudi Arabia, or a matter of fulfilling a quota for labour demanded by Saudi Arabia in return for what, normalisation of business relations, investment in Thailand?

Right, so instead the government should force vocational students to be postmen?

Just how severe is the labour shortage in Saudi Arabia? Sending vocational school students abroad to work?!?! Just who exactly is going to be responsible for them if something should happen to them while abroad?

Over the last 6 years + Prayut has done nothing for employment in Thailand for it's youth.

Now he tries to Blame Covid for his short-comings.

Thai youth have nothing to look forward to after graduating.

Now he wants to send them off to Saudi to boast about how he cured the unemployment problem.

Time to take a walk PM.. get out of office your time is over.

Well it could be one up from a Noodle stall owner.

That's what most graduates aspire to.

Interviewer: "So how about your education?"

Interviewee: "I have a vocational degree in interior cleaning."

Interviewer: "Hm... I wasn't even aware there was such a degree. And what and where are you working at the moment?"

Interviewee: "I am a 'janitor' at a Saudi palace. I'll very rich very, very soon."

Sorry my little children of Thailand.. I have failed you by not providing employment opportunities.

I have been busy the last six years developing my retirement portfolio.

You know you will be in my thoughts and heart as you toil away on foreign soil, away from your families and loved ones.. but please don't forget to send money back home.

You can still support your country and leaders from overseas.

I think of you as my children... but I don't treat you as mine, mine will not have to work in Saudi, I have provided them with other opportunities not privy to the lower ranks.

I'm sure you understand... be strong, work hard ..

Su su.

After working in a vocational college for a few years and knowing ability of most of the students: perhaps it’s a cunning plan by the PM to topple the Saudi regime.

IMO, The mixture of Vocational Students and the Saudi Authorities, and their Laws will not go well together.

Always looking for the Money, and this time by trying to place potentially higher earners in Saudi, hoping more Money gets sent back for Families to spend in the Economy

Modern state sponsored slavery and human trafficking of your population, annouced as a win for Thais. Disgusting.

Hopefully those vocational students won't be fighting rival Thai vocational students in Saudi.  I'm sure the Saudi authorities won't be quite as lenient as the Thai authorities are.

Certainly not the Gov...

Saudi Arabia is in the middle of a long term effort to "localize jobs" and reduce its foreign work force. Localize jobs is a polite way of saying they want their own nationals to do the work. They dropped over 250,000 foreign workers last year. Certainly they still employ a lot of foreign workers, yet trends are totally opposite of what this news release implies.

However It does make a good headline, if you need to cover PM Gen Prayut real reason for visiting Saudi Arabia.

The true irony behind that plan is that Thai workers are now going to be sent to Saudi-Arabia to toil in the very same jobs that none of them would ever consider taking at home, rather leaving them to Cambodian and Burmese migrants.

Exactly my first thought.

"Behave" or be sent to Saudi slave labor camp :shock1:

Not sure but I suspect most of these jobs in Saudi are labouring work or similar (please correct this if I'm wrong).

Given this:

- Kids go to Vocational school, don't complete their studies because they have had a carrot dangled in their faces for much higher than normal salaries. Their vocational studies never get completed.

- Or,  kids go to Vocational school, complete their studies, then go to Saudi to get higher salaries but never use what they learned at Vocational school.

Sounds like a very stupid illogical strategy to me, ultimately/long-term there's no winners but 2 losers:

1. Vocational students.

2. Thailand.

'Snatch' was made ten years after the Blue Diamond theft.

Legalized human trafficking?  Make one wonder.  I've heard stories from Filipinos.  However if they are allowed to keep their passport and are given a good wage?  Well - I hope so.  It could be a win-win situation if the compensation is good.  It could also be a very sad story. Then you need to wonder how many Buddhist boys will return as Takfiri Wahhabists.  That will be great for Thailand.  Wonder if they have thought that one through?  ????

Ahh, the new word for deportation now is "fill labor need in ...."

Smart Thais...

The Saudis generally want skilled labor, like engineers. At a tech school level - underwater welding.  They can train the locals to become oil rig roustabouts.
