Popular Post CharlieH
Didnt come here to make friends and had no expectations of it either. Happy living away from others in a quiet backwater far from the madding crowd (tourist areas). Keep myself to myself and quite happy if others do likewise. ???? 26

Hummin
One good friend and a few more I frequently catch up with. A few more I am riding with and meet on the road for a few days. Getting new good friends is not the same as when you where younger, a bit more selective now.

TropicalGuy
None really as the types I come across bring very little value to my life. No Expectations Either. Suppose that would happen if part of specialist leisure group like bikers, divers or yachties….????. but I live a quiet secluded life with small family and actively avoid expats now…????

Popular Post BritManToo
Made some good friends when I came to Chiang Mai in 2009. Mostly dead now, 2 left alive, one in Cambodia, one in Oman. Haven't seen either since COVID. Doubt I'll bother with any new friends now. Popular Post SAFETY FIRST
Like most comments I've read, didn't come here for friends. If you've come to Thailand looking for friends, take care. Lots of Dodgy guys, crypto is a big thing for these guys. I keep to myself, have a big family here that keep me happy. I go to the gym regularly, sometimes I have a chat with the newbies, most of them I just give a nod hello and that's it.

Skeptic7
Not interested. Avoiding making male friends was 2nd only to making female friends! In 25 years, made 3 friends here. One has disappeared completely this year after 15 years and the other, haven't seen in over 2 years but Line Chat occasionally. The 3rd lives is CM, but we share some uncommon interests and keep in regular touch. Still not interested. Have only 2 true friends back in USA and one is female. "Friends" are usually overrated. Popular Post spidermike007
Absolutely not. Surprising. Very few Thai men seem to have a real interest in developing a friendship with a foreigner here. Have a few. None who are close. Most are more of the acquaintance type. Part of the issue is my lack of fluency in Thai. And part is the extreme lack of curiosity about the outside world that many Thais are plagued with. If I were in the PI, or Mexico, I would have alot of interesting local male friends. Not here. Oh well. Have enough good foreign friends here. And a good woman. All good. 4

Expat68
I would not call friends, have some but many acquaintances, have friends from my home country who have also moved to Thailand. Popular Post JJ Madcow
When moving here i got like 6-8 foreigner friends, But it was not really me. The drinking, smoking, negativ talk about everything in Thailand. Was so boring to listen to all the time, And didnt want to sit at a drinking hole every day/week. Even in my country that dont look good. A few die over the years after being sick/old, 1 jump and kill himself. So i choose to drop all foreigner friends/social live with foreigner years back, And never regeret it. Have many Thai male friends over the years, And even more Thai female friends. Crazy numbers of Thai female friends, Special via my wife circle of friends and family. I love hang out with Thai people, So nice, kind, warm, open mind, And all about enjoy live. Think i go mad if i didnt have all our Thai friends in our life, For me live be to boring away from other people (Thai people). And i do love it that nearly all Thai we know, Dont smoke, Both wife and me dislike being around people that smoke. That Thai get together whiteout have to drink and get drunk was a surprise to me after all i was told about Thai people, by foreigner. I all so talk to nearly all Thai people on our Soi, Like i be doing if i was back home. Great to talk, get invite to sit down, get something cold to drink, a snack, food and so on. For Christmas I give home baking (Wife do the baking) to the neighbor that have small kids. We exchanging fruit with our neighbor from our garden, You know normal (for me that is) neighbor things to do. Kindly. 5
Popular Post Tedly
I too, didn't come here to make friends, without speaking the language it's hard to make Thai friends even if I wanted to, I have a few Thai friends that are friends of my wife's and they are good people but lack of major communication prevents too much socializing which I don't want anyway. I did make one good farang friend who I ride bicycle with most mornings, that's about as much as I need, or want. I can keep myself occupied.

Ditto... the resort areas hold no attraction for me unless I visit on vacation. Watching daily the dregs of society rubbing shoulders on a bar stool while scantily dressed girls try to make a hit is not my cup-of-tea. 2
Popular Post Headgame
Never wanted any expat buds. Didn't need to come to TH to meet a fellow American. Amuse myself everyday with the things I like to do - big bikes, etc., Have a Thai lady who ticks all my boxes including best friend. Life is very fulfilling and couldn't be better for me right now.
Popular Post swm59nj
No friends here unfortunately. When I first moved to Bangkok I attempted to speak to other foreigners. Most from the states but also Europe. Not particularly sociable. My friends are in the states. The majority of their conversations were on and on about how they dislike their own country. Blaming this and that for their misfortunes in life. Going to the bar drinking. I’m not interested in socializing with people like that. 1

JustAnotherHun
I'm careful with the word "friend" and I don't have more than a handfull of them back home. Here in Thailand I have a few buddies I go out with for a meal, a game of Pool or a trip through the nightlife. One of them turned out to be what I would call a friend. Enough for me anyway. 1
