This language is much more extinct than Latin. All south european languages are based on latin and are close to each other

Not true

Many Adriatic languages Slovenian, Monetnegro, Istrian Slovene of Carniola  Hvrat /Croatian, the isles off Herzogovina/Ragusa Albanian of both the Tosks and Geghs Ionian Greek Macedonian Kosovan and Bulgarian bear little relation to Latin , nor the Turkish part of S Europe . Similarly while using Latin script Maltese is based on Arabic, parts of Sardinia speak Catala.

As a speaker of both Italian and Portuguese I think you need to refresh your study comparative linguistics before making such broad assertions.

As for Airport codes perhaps BUM for Big Upright Mango may be available, this Internationalism is a full time study , the Malays have a nice name for it Antarabangsa Sir!

So what they are actually doing, is shortening the official name of 'Krung Thep', and not changing the name of Bangkok (Noi & Yai), which unless crossing to the west side of the river, most tourist have never visited anyway.

As always, clear as mud ... ????  Or do they simply not want to confuse people even more with that explanation.

The capital of Thailand’s name to officially be changed to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon

Thailand’s Office of the Royal Society (ORST) has announced the change of the official name of Thailand’s capital, from “Bangkok” to “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon”. The name “Bangkok” will, however, still be recognised by officials.

The Thai cabinet approved the change, in principle, yesterday (Tuesday) and the new official name will not come into effect until it is vetted by a committee in charge of scrutinising all draft bills, with additional observations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Bangkok” has been in use since November 2001. It came from an old area of Bangkok, which is now a part of the greater metropolitan area of the capital, Bangkok Noi and Bangkok Yai districts.
