BANGKOK, Feb 18 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha admitted that goods prices were rising and blamed it on worldwide inflation.

During the House’s general debate, Gen Prayut said he admitted that goods prices went up and the government was solving the problem.

Goods prices increased and some goods became expensive because of worldwide rising inflation. Besides, COVID-19 situations caused prices to rise unexpectedly. The government could not solve all problems at the same time but had to prioritize problems and solve them accordingly, Gen Prayut said.

Thank you, Mr. Prayuth, for once again confirming that you have absolutely zero, zilch, nil comprehension of economics, neither on a domestic nor international level. Should've stayed in the barracks

He is saying what every other world leader is saying, in effect. His intention is to counter potential criticism that the inflation is due to domestic policies.

Since he is in excuse mode, let's hear for that as well.

Awww, at least he’s tryin’, look at him in his suit ????

Bottom line; the more the inflation, the more the dodgy currency bloats, the quicker this character achieves his goal…. a false Singapore-style sterile-like state where he can reign supreme. Yuk.

I assume you realise that very high inflation is currently a problem in every country in the world?

The average Joe knows what is going on and don't need the politicians to explain that.

Nothing to do with Thai gouging then?

The high Pork price has little to do with world inflation .

That effects the least well off .

Thailand reduces tax on fuel . Unheard of in the western world .  Thai transport companies seem to have more say than they should .

Thai baht making a good run against the major currencies in the world .  Hard to see the reason why . Manipulation by the Thai central bank I think . Rice producers will be concerned as all exporters will be too . Exports have been a light at the end of the tunnel for the Thai economy when tourism is flat .

Just simply appalled that the Prime Minister gave such a low quality rebuttal of a weighty technical subject. He is at his usual cavalier off-the-cuff style and General demeanour. He really has not learned and adjusted himself to be a politician. A golden opportunity to show charts and explain that core inflation due to energy and commodities beyond his control while food like pork and vegetables are cyclical and recent price increases due to the twin year end major festivities. He could even bring out government intervention on pork hoarding. No mention of what he can do in terms of fiscal measures and on government subsidies. He just don't have the acument and competency to be a politician and yet he is the Prime Minister. ????

He's not wrong, but to be more specific:

Dollarisation and all that - America sneezes, the world catches a cold.

High inflation worldwide? Just maybe if you eased the rules on covid for us humans as it might just jump-start tourism. There is a lot of heartbreak in Thailand now and Omicron no where as bad as Delta so let you hair down as ease the restrictions on covid as it will get us all going again.

So it's just an amazing coincidence that increasing inflation is happening all over the world? The explanation is actually pretty obvious. Because of disruptions in supply, there aren't enough goods to meet demand.

That's normal when you have no economy , in Japan the inflation rate is 0 % for 22 years now

Japan Consumer Prices Rise the Most in 2 Years

Japan's consumer prices rose by 0.8% yoy in December 2021, accelerating from a 0.6% gain a month earlier and pointing to the 4th straight month of increase. The latest figure was also the highest annual inflation rate since December 2019, boosted by a sharp pickup in food prices and a further rise in housing cost.

Since when was the unelected soldier posing as a PM ever a politician? He is a soldier with a soldiers mentality, nothing more, only trying to rule the country after taking it at the point of a gun.

I think i was referring to the post where it was written that politicians worldwide informed people about the inflation.

politician: a person who is professionally involved in politics, especially as a holder of an elected office.

I cannot help myself to think that rising prices are apart from macroeconomic mechanisms pure greed.

Supplier do increase prices with every excuse they can think of. Its a ripoff - same with insurances and alike. Or why do you think that the owners of the big supply chains have dozens of big houses, yachts etc. whereas you do not even have a rubber boat and neither villas in several metropoles in the world ?

So the unelected PM is a politician???? I would say that he is a soldier and nothing else. If I wanted to be a lawyer and run my own lawyers firm, then walked into a lawyers office heading a gang of guys with access to guns and forced the lawyers and their staff out and took their place, does that make me a lawyer?
