Postmedia has learned that Matthew Dupre has been arrested in Canada, but that Gene Lahrkamp is still on the run

TRAIL, B.C. — When Ron Joseph first heard that a Trail man was a suspect in a gangland murder in Thailand, he didn’t immediately make the connection to his neighbour up the mountain.

He went to his beer league hockey game and “everybody was talking about it” trying to figure out who it was. The next day, Joseph saw a Postmedia report mentioning that accused killer Gene Lahrkamp was a dog breeder and it clicked: The younger guy he had many casual conversations with was alleged by police to be an international hitman.

“It’s shocking because it’s out of the ordinary,” Joseph told Postmedia News. “Never would have known he was a hitman.”

Since moving to the top of Lookout Mountain just over four years ago, Lahrkamp had friendly interactions with the neighbours he passed on his daily walk with one of his Belgian Malinois dogs.

I just hope they ask him how he got the gun in Thailand. And if there is a connection to Thai officialdom, well I'm sure it would be a misunderstanding...

What is the LAM in the headline?

On the lam = on the run, ie not yet arrested.

What do they say about a man and the size of his gun ?

That he was a member of the military?

Both are former members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Investigators have identified the suspects as Gene Karl Lahrkamp, 36, and Matthew Leandre Ovide Dupre, also 36. Canada’s Department of National Defence confirmed with The Abbotsford News that both men were released as corporals from the CAF. Dupre served from 2005 to 2013, and Lahrkamp served from 2012-18.

PHUKET, March 1 (TNA) – A suspected gunman who killed an Indian man in the southern island province early last month was arrested in Canada and Thai prosecutors will seek his extradition.

Jumpol Phansamrit, director-general of the International Affairs Department at the Office of the Attorney-General, said Canadian police arrested Matthew Dupre. He was one of two suspects wanted under arrest warrants issued by the Phuket Court for the premeditated murder of Jimi Sandhu. The victim was found dead at a villa in Phuket on Feb 4.

Earlier police learned that the suspect left Thailand for Canada on Feb 6.

I don't know but they really should have more police on these things as just about every criminal who goes on the run is said to be on it...

A suggestion to Gene…. Forget about trying to hide, simply parade yourself around the F1 paddocks all season, you’ll be perfectly safe

Meh...1 less drug dealer on the streets can't be a bad thing....

Guns, almost certainly, provided in Thailand.

I vaguely remember an article mentioning one gun being connected to a retired official.

Yes, the guns were sourced locally and I would have thought to arrange a couple of hitmen locally also.

2 guys could have just disappeared into the night then off to Nakon Nowhere and not heard of again.

Would've been a better option than sending a couple of Canadians.

We don't know who sent them. They may walk away soon in their country, just cleaned up some trash,

Can't have 2 farang doing the job of the RTP, they take that more seriously than a rich cokehead running over one of their own.

Wonder where Lahrkamp is hiding out?  Perhaps he is dead.  Canadian news sources are very quiet about this case.
