They could call Putin to stop his stupid war and things would be good again

There are some hotels in Phuket doing the right thing and offering free accommodation to Ukrainians who are stranded here. Respect.

  • Yes.  I would let the Ukrainians stay for free.  The Russians can fend for themselves good luck.

  • Not much sympathy for the Russians but certainly the Ukrainians should be helped.  I'm glad there are no Russians where I live as I would get in trouble for telling them what I think of their lea

The issue isn't tourists who may come in the future, it's the large number of Russians in Thailand on long stay. Jomtien is full of them. How they survive is going to be problematic.

If their money is cut off and they have no way of getting back home than the Thai government must help them. Logic 101.

I do not think that all Russian citizens should be condemned for their government leaders actions.  Their leaders are not exactly chosen by a free and open democratic election system.  A few years ago (4 or 5) my wife and I happened to be on a SCUBA diving trip that included five Russian divers.  It was on a liveaboard trip where we were together for six days.  What I can say is that they were very pleasant people to be around and we had some very interesting and enlightening conversations in English in the evenings after the days diving was done.  Granted, this group may not have been from the same economic class of Russians that visit locations such as Pattaya and Phuket for a few days of activities but we thoroughly enjoyed their company and would welcome another trip with them.

Whoever thought a year ago Russia would start a war with Ukraine who did what I thought two years ago that this virus was spread throughout the whole country and world Russia thought that they would be able to divide NATO and his surprise all I did was bring them closer together the Russian average person is not responsible for the dictator that runs the place just like the average tie is not responsible for what does government does they took power by military coup against a duly elected person who didn’t try to bring to court and who escaped the day before the war was to be read TIT

The Thai government does not do a great job of assisting its own citizens, the age pension is 600 baht/month at age 60. 800 if they live to 80. What makes you think they will be more generous with foreigners?

I'm disgusted with the negativity shown towards Russians by members on this thread.

Speak to a Russian and ask what their opinion is before decrying them.

You will find there to be little love of Russian tourists before this. Rude and arrogant were two sweeping generalisations.
But, If you go to war, there are consequences. Not just for generals, dictators or soldiers, but your citizens are hardly about to be welcomed around the world.

If I were Russian, I would be looking to get on the first flight back, while I still could.

Holding individuals responsible for the actions of their governments is short-sighted, misguided, and frankly ignorant.

I hope you didn't mean that to sound as bigoted as it came out in print.

Putin has been a hero to the majority of Russians for many years, as a fairly tribal culture Russians have always respected strong leaders. So yes, they are partly responsible for the current mess. Granted, they are not responsible for Putin losing the plot.

Rumor is they are going to invade Jomtien!

Already there, but I wonder what they're going to do when the ATM machine says <deleted>-off!

Is it though?

Not addressing bkk6060's exact statement. I'd treat all tourists/legal aliens here the same.

But don't sanctions impact individual Russians in Russia and all over the globe? Isn't that the point? Is that really "...short-sighted, misguided, and frankly ignorant."

Ukraine was not a military threat to Russia.

Yes, but NATO is!

Precisely. Neither had the Americans under JFK, LBJ, Reagan and the Bushes etc.!

I am against all wars. But I do think people should see both sides of the picture.

So you're presenting one side, right? I guess? With an older article of dubious origins. There are neo nazis everywhere, I'm sure you're gung-ho on Russia denazifying those places too?

We used to have a lot more Russian trolls here.

You might be surprised how little trouble you might get. I don't think that a leader who acts like that finds much sympathy from his countryman. I think that guy betrayed his own country by leading innocent people into a war that nobody wants. On the other hand..... our western leaders are not much better. They didn't invade, but as far as I have learnt they ignored all agreements from before by insisting to militarize the Ukraine against Russia.

Too far ... as you are claiming Ukrainians are not freely chosing but rather the "west" insisted on "militarizing". That then could be applied to Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Albania ... etc.?

It's highly possible that they might agree with you.

Yes agree with people on this forum the Russian tourists  or ones who live here are not responsible for their  leaders actions

They are here to enjoy what Thailand has to offer and there are quite a few of them in Phuket and Pattaya contributing to the Thai economy ????

Talked to a friend in Udon Thani a couple of days ago and they said the plane they were in was mostly all Russians.

They arrived from Europe right before the invasion.

They should be sent back immediately.

As the ruble is now worth less than one US cent, permit me to doubt they are buying many.

I do wrestle with this thought. Ultimately, the citizens of each of our respective countries are responsible for our government's actions. Democratically elected or autocrats can and have been brought down by their citizens. Guess I am mindful that I held the citizens of Afghanistan responsible for allowing the training camps for those who attacked the US (I certainly opposed any idea of occupation). Yes, there are plenty of previous US actions to be condemned, but then that is not the current issue.

When I saw George Bush calling out Putin for invading a sovereign nation with no provocation was when I went.... what the fornicate?

Spot on...people have short or no memories as it happens. I'm no fan of Putin but nor am I a fan of the USA either. They have "invaded " so many countries it beggars belief...all for good causes of course as the media will inform you, much like the Russian media today

I wonder how immigration will see it.

Russians on retirement visa and sending 65k monthly.
Impossible now and if it would still be possible, they must send much more of their worthless currency.
