British man’s Thailand trip goes from heaven to prison hell (video)
That's what I was thinking. There's always his story, their story and the truth. Nevertheless, this guy was treated badly. My big takeaway is to stay away from Airbnb and no drinking. -

I really do agree with that (so I gave you a "like" 😎) - I usually think about my reactions before posting and only post what I'd say to someone's face or that which is attributable - maybe others do not. But seriously, the various people who've posted that "it really doesn't matter" or "it's just a forum" are correct. If that's all you have to worry about - well done you! I'd still like to see the posters identified though..... 🙄😉 -

Thai police to establish centre to combat Myanmar scam gangs
UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific Masood Karimipour meets Police General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot | Photo via KhaoSod English By Ryan Turner The Royal Thai Police (RTP) is establishing an international coordination centre to collaborate with foreign embassies in preventing foreign nationals from joining call centre scam gangs in Myanmar. The initiative, spearheaded by Police General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, aims to tackle call centre scams, particularly in the Mae Sot district of Tak, which serves as a significant transit point for individuals joining illicit operations in Myawaddy, Myanmar. Pol. Gen. Thatchai, also the director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Centre and Thailand’s Action Taskforce for Information Technology Crime Suppression, chaired a meeting with representatives from 16 countries, including ambassadors and diplomats from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Tanzania, the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Brazil, the United States, Morocco, India, Kenya, Ukraine, Bangladesh, and Russia. The meeting was also attended by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. National Police Chief Police General Kittharath Punpetch has already bolstered measures to prevent foreign criminals from entering Thailand. These measures include enhanced checks at airports and border checkpoints, monitoring of accommodations and tourist sites, investigations into travel routes and safe houses, and increased border security operations and coordination. Cooperation with international agencies is also in place to ensure effective results. Embassies have expressed strong support for Thailand’s efforts to enhance cross-border law enforcement cooperation and combat illegal border crossings. The international coordination centre will facilitate real-time data sharing and communication between Thai police and international agencies. Pol. Gen. Thatchai urged all embassies to participate in the coordination centre to eliminate call centre scam gangs, with regular meetings planned by the RTP to assess the situation and prepare for the centre’s establishment. Many are deceived To prevent foreigners from seeking employment with call centre operations in Myanmar, officials aim to stop them from entering Mae Sot, although this task remains challenging. Despite warnings, many individuals use Mae Sot as an entry point in pursuit of high earnings, whether with call centre gangs or online gambling operators in Myanmar. In many instances, individuals are deceived into working for criminals. Pol. Gen. Thatchai highlighted the information gap leading to the formation of the International Coordination Centre. This centre aims to enable officials to contact embassies when one of their citizens arrives in Mae Sot without a clear travel plan. Foreign embassy staff can then directly contact their compatriots to warn them against illegally crossing the border and participating in illegal work. When questioned about the centre’s role in recovering victims who have already crossed into Myanmar, Pol. Gen. Thatchai stated that such cases must go through border coordination committees and officials in Myanmar. Regarding China’s recent cooperation with Thai police on similar matters, he expressed confidence in improved outcomes due to increased intelligence sharing with Chinese police. Prevention efforts are underway not only in Mae Sot but also in other high-risk border areas in provinces such as Kanchanaburi, Surin, and Chiang Rai. The police are also considering employing Sections 11 and 15 of the Immigration Act to impose stricter entry conditions for Mae Sot, reported Bangkok Post. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-02-03 -
