Police in Sukhothai province have begun searching for a family of four, who have not been seen or heard of since they left home in Thung Saliam district on April 10th.

The grandfather of the family reported to the police in Ban Rai sub-district that his 41-year-old son had told him that he was going to take his wife and two children – a son aged 12 and a daughter aged 7 – away on a trip during Songkran, but did not disclose where they planned to go.

The family left in a grey pickup truck, license plate Bor Por 3053 registered in Sukhothai province, on April 10th, according to the grandfather, who added that he has since lost contact with them.

Gone from home for 11 days, sounds strange without any contact.

I hope for the grandfathers sake the whole family hasn't come to grief.

I hope all will turn out to be good. However, it´s very worrisome that his son did not want to tell where they went. Sounds to me that he wish to hide something.

Maybe none of them are missing and just on a family holiday.

So is it only the grandfather who has lost touch, what about the rest of the extended family ?

Very difficult to tell mysterious in the land of mysterious hence their mysterious disappearance ????

That’s why Facebook is so bad.  Everyone gets depressed thinking everyone is so perfect.  So happy.  One picture.   I could never judge perfection on one picture.   Wow, they are living the best life ever.  Then they’re missing.    Book.  Cover.

In a different paper, the fifth member is a 19 year old daughter who is looking for them.

This is the most scary part of the news-article...

The car was later found on Wednesday at a second-hand car sale outlet in Udon Thani province during a livestream sale promotion. The family remains without a trace.

Thanks, exactly my first thought when I saw the headline and a photo with five and what seems to be a teen daughter blurred; it would not be abnormal that an older teen might with not to join.

Where does it say he didn't want to tell where he was going? Perhaps you have another source, as this thread and linked article only says that the son didn't tell him.

This story gave me a sick tummy feeling.  That's a lot of effort to check CCTV with no idea of direction.  Or do they employ plate readers? Grandpa must be a man of influence either way it seems.    A kidnapping?  Mia noi?

Or else going short of money normally given to him by his family to keep him in "good spirits"

You definitely have problem getting that 1 and 1 makes 2, right?

If a son talk to his father, and telling that he is taking the family somewhere over Songkran but do not say where? What do you make out of that?

In other media outlets it was just reported that the 19 yr old daughter has now been in contact with the family. The police suspect the missing persons report was filed due to financial hardship or a debt. Now what a surprise that is.

You definitely have problem understanding Thais. If something doesn't directly concern them they often have no interest in it. The father wasn't involved at all in where his son and his family were going so he didn't ask and didn't expect to be told. It isn't that unusual in Thai society. It might go back to not being encouraged to ask questions in school. Maybe. Or maybe it's just a general lack of curiosity. So 1+1 doesn't always make 2.

Of course, you are welcome to speculate that the son refused to say where he was going as he had plans to - well, do what with himself and his family? What is your conspiracy theory? And if he was up to no good why didn't he say he was going to A when in reality he was going to B, to throw anyone off the scent. A far, far better idea if he was up to no good, instead of just saying nothing. You obviously didn't think this through enough.

As I posted earlier, they were not missing and the police believe it was a money or debt issue why the Grandfather wanted to make contact. If that is the case he should be charged with wasting police time perhaps.

Finally some good news.

Thanks. ????

Possibly not for the family if the grandfather is just scrounging for money as was implied, but more politely, elsewhere. Perhaps they just wanted a break from him.

Ever tried that on a calculator? You might learn something.

Good point.

Nobody could want to holiday in Udon Thani.

This looks bad. Gone too long and separated from their car.  What would anybody want from them?
