August 18, 2025Aug 18 These will do a 20% gradient, they are only 400 watts, you can get models with 1,000 watt motors that will go anywhere for about the same price from Sealup. I chose Xiaomi because I like the brand and they have a 6 way BMS, so hopefully won’t catch fire. They are more expensive than most, though a lot cheaper than Segway’s ninebot. We fold them flat and put them in the back of the Seal for awayday fun (O&A as someone would say, if you know, you know).

She now has a sit down one upgraded to 500W and now again to 800W. With 800W she now has the confidence to go anywhere in town. Based on her experience I wouldn't recommend anyone get one with less than 500W. She has gone from 48V (nom) to 72V (nom). Maybe for a pit bike less would be OK. As usually there are no hills in the pits. PS. There are some slick looking Honda? full sized electric bikes (40,000) at the Kawasaki dealer in CM. More substantial than a pushbike but not anywhere near m/bikes. I did think of one of them for her but they are only 450W not enough for the hills where we live.
August 19, 2025Aug 19 We live at Buffalo Hill in Chiang Rai, they will get up the steep slopes here, but my partner's does it faster but I'm 30kg heavier and the speed slowly drops to 13kmhr. We are both very able bodied and these scooters were purchased for fun. I bought one in the 8.8 Lazada sale, it passed muster, so we bought the second one on Shopee for just under 14,000 THB delivered. We've done a few trips of about 25km, riding them is fairly intuitive but you do need to scan the road surface as the wheels are only 10" inflated to 50psi. Surprisingly, they are easily ridden at night as the spotlight is excellent with a great range. I was tempted to buy a 1000watt Sealup for the same price, but was worried about quality. I'd make the same decision again and I would recommend the Xiaomi Scooter Elite to anyone with less than a 20% gradient (1 in 5). Is your wife's Lithium batteries or lead acid?

August 19, 2025Aug 19 Drove to Sangkhlaburi (western Kanchanaburi) and back over the past weekend. I got a bit worried that you can drive a long way through barely inhabited areas without ever seeing a petrol station, let alone EV charging stations. Nationally, there seems to be 27,553 petrol stations and just 1,239 charging stations for EV, so while the map of charging stations above looks a lot, I can imagine it being worrisome in some out of the way places. No problem for those who live in major cities I know. https://www.poidata.io/report/gas-station/thailand https://www.p3-group.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/P3-EV-Report-Thailand.pdf P.S. I should mention that I was driving a diesel powered Innova.

If not you are probably unaware of the multiple apps for finding charging stations. My EV has a 600km range so unless my journey is longer than that I charge at home for free from my home solar.

I should mention that I was driving a diesel powered Innova. The EV charging stations numbers in above report are from "Dec 2022" per the report....over two and half years old data....big time outdated now. Using the chart that UWEB posted above from the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT) it's much more up to date, BUT, even its numbers are somewhat low as all charging networks/companies in Thailand do not report their charging stations data to EVAT. But you are on-target regarding few EV charging stations being slim-pickings in parts of Kanchanaburi province and even neighboring Ratchaburi province...especially the western part of this two big provinces which border Myanmar. And even the number of dino fuel stations is slim. I've done a far amount of driving in that area and it can make a person feel a little uneasy if you entered the area low on dino fuel or electron fuel thinking there would be plenty of fuel stations. All too often some folks will post snapshots from charging app maps showing pin drops representing charging stations around Thailand. And when looking at the country as a whole with big pin drops it can make it look like charging stations are located all over the country every few kilometers. HOWEVER, BUT, when zooming in on the map to different parts to the Thailand like the western part, upper central, Isan, etc., a person quickly sees the number of charging stations drops way, way down and they get farther and farther and farther apart. If a person is low on fuel it definitely generates an uneasy feeling. BUT if a person is traveling thru such areas on "main roads/highways" there are more than enough charging stations to complete your trip. Now if a person is living in some of these charging-station-poor areas of Thailand without home charging capability and must rely on charging network chargers then keeping the EV charged can get more challenging unless the person enjoys setting at low power AC chargers for hours and hours.

August 22, 2025Aug 22 Just "Q" of MI6 doing a test for a new 007 car since James likes to drive cars thru, over, and under rivers. Even Q is going BEV especially since even many low priced sport BEVs have equal or more torque than super pricey Aston Martins. Q is cost conscious in addition to being a genius. Seems the test was a success....the battery didn't catch on fire even when submerged, the engine keep running powered by the battery, etc. And I think I saw Q at a EV dealership the other day buying some more BEVs for his modification and testing....he only wants James to be successful in his driving against bad guys. 😀

August 22, 2025Aug 22 I was just thinking about how much things have changed with EVs in the last couple of years. Prices have been dropping, and they’re still going down, but it’s not just about the price anymore. You also get way more features now — bigger batteries, faster charging, better tech all around. Like, two years ago, the idea of a 100 kWh battery running on 800V in a 1.5M THB car would’ve sounded crazy, but now it’s real. So it makes me wonder… what’s going to happen in another two years? That’s kind of why I keep delaying my purchase. I get that people might say, “yeah but then you never enjoy the car,” which is true, but with the pace of these updates it feels like you’d buy one today and already want to replace it in a couple of years. Does anyone else feel the same way?
