Well I get charged 5 baht/kwh at my condo.

 

I have a 25.4kwh battery, a full charge consumes about 33.9kwh = 169 baht, that goes about 75km cruising on a highway.

 

With the ICE I get 5.5L/100km on the highway = 4.125L/75km = 142 baht.

 

Now I'm sure a real EV that didn't have to lug around an ICE with it can achieve a little better economy, and people living in houses can get cheaper electricity, but the real-world savings are still a little overstated.

 

But, in BKK there are heaps of free EV charging stations...

That is not the Official Rate but a rate what the Condo charges. (some condo's / apartments even charge 8 THB / kWh), if you get your OWN PEA / MEA meter then the rate will be much lower.

I haven’t ordered yet, but deliveries are expected Q1 2023. Inventory at the Shanghai plant is building and Tesla is offering incentives in China if you buy from inventory.

I ordered the Model 3 LR - delivery is indicated 'within 6 months of order confirmation', so it could be as late as middle of June 2023. But I have to test drive it first, if the ride is as 'wooden' as many commenters on YT indicate, it would be a 'no go' for me.

Those of us who have been watching the EV market in Thailand for a while have become used to seeing high prices for EVs. Back in 2018 I attended the Bangkok motor show looking for an EV and the Nissan Leaf was probably the cheapest at 2 million Baht.

 

 

 

So at ฿1,959,000 are we being overcharged by Tesla for the Model Y RWD in Thailand?

Nissan offer was a limited offer last July to get rid of their final stock of 40 cars nationwide some vehicles may have been in showrooms for 2 years

@mistral53 do keep us posted on your experiences. I for one will have questions and I am sure many others will have too.

 

It’s normal in Thailand to get a free 1 year of First Class insurance with a new car. There was nothing on the Tesla website about insurance. Tesla does sell it’s own insurance in some states in the USA. Some FB groups are saying insurance can cost ฿50,000 which is what you would pay for a similar priced BMW.

 

All the reviews I have seen claim that Teslas have a firm ride, with the Y being worse and on both models being worse the bigger the wheels you choose.

 

The model Y has recently been released with “comfort suspension” which slightly less firm.

Normally if any dealership has used models as demo cars and attached red plates then the warranty starts from that date.

I seen some dealerships selling older by manufacturing year  brand new cars with a reduced amount of warranty ( number of months )

If you contemplate buying a Tesla Model 3, check if your driveway works with low ground clearance or if Tesla's Thai version has increased ground clearance. Due to the battery, the bottom is flat. You may have no problems at the front and back, but the middle part may scratch if you cannot cross steeper ledges diagonally. Apart from that 2 mio THB is good value for money.

I expect Tesla prices to slide in Thailand to the price in China.

 

Registered companies can import Tesla's made in China without tax, the model 3 is 1.3M baht in China.

EV competitive of the 'many' manufacturers and models available is stiff in CH.

 

Not so much here, so it's priced for the TH market.  Don't think it will change much, especially since the demand for Tesla is extremely high.  Surpassed everything else in the price range, I think, with just the first round of orders.

Edit: In my opinion the Thai charging network is now fine for charging on road trips, but I wouldn't buy an EV if I wasn't able to charge at home for day to day use.  

My concern about charging on road trips is OK there might be a network but when you get there a) will it be working and b) will someone else be there using it.

My EV has switchable ground clearance from 98mm to 140mm, mostly I drive it on 98mm, ride is comfortable and I only lift it for awkward situations.

I read a good article on EVs the other day which puts to bed many anti-EV myths - several of which you can find in this thread (coal powered, blah blah).

The only  silliness I see on this forum is from people that are unable to accept that there are valid concerns over Ground clearance especially when 80% of the total vehicle cost is close to the ground
