Driving past my local MG dealer and saw that they had MG EPs in stock, so popped in for a closer look. This is not the new shape which is called MG ES in Thailand (both models are called MG 5 else where)

The EP is ฿1,000,000 but with the government incentive only ฿771,000

really great value.

One thing I really like about these cars is no sunroof.

Thais are complaining on the Tesla forums that Model Y and 3 in Thailand are getting too hot. Teslas come with heated seats, heated steering wheels but no cooled seats. In Thailand Black is the Free colour and you can’t even select a white interior.

I previously test drove the MG 4 which is a great car and it comes 2 trim levels

One has a sunroof and the cheaper one doesn’t  - choose wisely

You could be right I might have been fooled by painted roof on the base model and the black roof - thought it was glass on the top model

Yes, lots of them at 125Kw

That is strange, because I never get more than 65 kW with my MG 4

Bangkok Motor Show March 2023 Answers provided by staff on the stand

MG Maxus 9

3-row MPV with 90 kWh battery, 540 km EV range

This a product of the Maxus, which is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor that also owns MG. It is known as the Maxus Mifa 9 in China.

At the show it was available for prebooking with a ฿20,000 deposit which entitles customers to double that amount in discount. Staff at the show said that price and delivery had not been confirmed.

In Thailand, the Maxus 9 will be offered in two grades, starting with the X and the V which will add run-flat tyres, genuine leather upholstery, improved powered front seats with massage, heating, ventilation and driver’s side memory functions, VIP-style second-row captain chairs.

I had to queue for some time to see these cars as they were probably the most popular cars at the show! Due to the crowds I have included some photos from PaulTang.org  so that you can get a clearer view.

The Atto has a sunroof and - most importantly - a sliding sunshade. I read somewhere that the Volvo EV's don't have sunshades. That's not uncommon with some fancier vehicles but it's not good in Thailand. I wouldn't buy a car here which has sunroof without a shade.

I don't think that's true. I have a petrol XC40 with a glass roof and a sliding sunshade. It also has an option in the menu called something like "auto close sun shade" which, if you are parked in hot weather, will automatically close the sun shade 15 minutes after parking. Good function.

I have also driven both an all electric XC40 and a C40 and both had the same sliding sunshade and the same function. I can't imagine them removing the sunshade on future models for any reason.

I'll happily stand corrected. Would seem odd not to have a shade.

Why doesn't BYD have a decent website including prices?

How much is a BYD Atto 3 and how much government incentive do you get?

Can you negotiate a discount?

As @Jotnar has posted , 1.1 mil for the standard range and 1.2 for the extended, both versions are identical except for the battery size .

No negotiations I think, free 1 year insurance and floor mats at some dealerships, that is about it.

We visited the local showroom yesterday, Extended Range available ex-stock, Standard Range only in white or grey but only white available to order with a long lead time.  I suspect it's just a marketing ploy to get people to go for the extended range.

I sat in the back whilst my daughter drove, it rode well but was surprisingly noisy in the back.

How do the chargers work at service stations? Do I just rock up and plug in and then once charged pay whatever the cost is as if I was filling up with petrol ? Or do I need to register with lots of different companies to be able use their charging stations and then get billed periodically?

All CS vendors are a bit different, or not.   But some require registration, an app, or not, pay via app, or transfer or CC, but not cash AFAIK.  Quite easy process.

Which EV do you own ?

Many thanks - always wondered how this works.

I don't yet own an EV, but have started thinking about it more and more.  Planning to start looking at a few models over the next couple of months.
