Nemises
Need to send money to a friend (in advance) to allow them to pay for the yearly road tax at the DLT office on my behalf. Anyone know how much it is currently? Compulsive insurance has already been sorted, just asking about the tax. Thanks.
ThailandRyan
You'll have to have a vehicle inspection as well before the road tax can be paid as the vehicle is now 5 years old. Not sure about the road tax as I just paid it for a 2 year old vehicle.
sanuk711
If the car isn't being used Nemises--you can wait until your return--& you will need MOT if a certain age. https://tdl-service.com/vehicle-registration-renewal-in-thailand/

Perhaps you are thinking of a motorcycle inspection which has to be done when it is 5 years old. So to renew the tax on the pick-up you will need the compulsory insurance ( unless you not already got it as part of your vehicle insurance ) plus the cost of the tax which for my car last week was 645 baht. The compulsory insurance I believe is also around 700 baht so @Nemises, better budget for 1500 baht but if the tax has already run out for a while they may well ask you to pay the back tax. https://www.angloinfo.com/how-to/thailand/transport/vehicle-ownership/vehicle-roadworthiness#:~:text=Find out where and how, that the vehicle is roadworthy. I joke, it is 7 years for all cars and trucks, though the cost goes down by about 10% at 5 years old...

You do it when you come back if it's parked up. 2-door "real" pickups (green script plate) are taxed by empty weight. Same amount every year. I think the typical 1.5 ton (empty) pickup is about 900 per year. Full 4-door (not the king cab or other tricky stuff) is taxed like a car by displacement and age. First 5 years full amount (much more than 2-door). After that 10% decrease yearly down to 50%. Trying to find my old stuff... If things haven't changed a 2.5 liter 4-door would be 4900 in the first five years. After that down to 2450.
