Three dead - including bouncer - as pub goers fight after closing time at southern Thai nightclub

Thai Rath reported that a fight broke out in the car park of Club 99 in Nakhon Sri Thammarat in southern Thailand after closing time in the early hours of Friday morning. 

 

The violence involving knives and a gun left three dead including a bouncer hit by a stray bullet. 

 

One man survived with serious stab wounds. Back up had to be called as the violence threatened to continue at a hospital.

 

Muang district police found a state of confusion at the club and a lot of blood at the scene. Two rescue foundations had taken four injured  people to Maharat Nakhon Sri Thammarat Hospital.

Police back up in the form of officers from seven areas as well as 10 traffic police had to be called by security at the hospital as more violence loomed. 

 

Pronounced dead in the hospital were:

 

1: Jirachoke, 21, a local mechanic at a technical college who had two stab wounds to the back of the head.

 

2: Suphachai, 51, from Phatthalung a bouncer employed by the club who was shot with a .22 gun in the chest.

 

3: Lee,23, a local man with a knife wound.

 

The survivor was Natthawut, 28, who had four stab wounds to the abdomen and is now out of danger.

 

Trouble flared between two groups in the parking lot outside the club with both sides suffering casualties.

 

Police met yesterday morning and went to the scene. The local chief said that Jirachoke and Lee started fighting with knives before Lee went to get a gun from his pick-up and shot at the opposing group.

 

The bouncer was hit in the chest as he tried to stop the violence. 

 

Investigations continue.

I have been in all Thailand provinces, but people in Nakhon Si Thammarat are the worst. The only place in country where I actually didn't feel safe.

Well that even seems to be a real thing here, should study on that. Perhaps the lack of mother and proper baby milk + healthy food plays a roll in the lack of IQ levels too.

Soon after first arriving in Thailand in the late 90’s I was made aware that NST and Surrathani are more dangerous and things can kick off there more quickly than in other areas of Thailand....   Whether thats true or not I don’t know.

It seems an element of Thai society cannot go out and enjoy a social beer without being tooled up?

Unbelievable something like this would happen here.  From reading some posts on the forums.  One would think this type of violence , or any violence, doesn’t happen in the land of smiles.  
In reality numerous  violence ,robbery, and murders happen pretty much every day here.  Maybe not mass type issues. But what about on the news.  Groups of locals attacking a single individual with sticks and/  or knives.  Seems fairly common here.  A number of people attacking one individual.   Isn’t that technically  a mass type issue ?   But these individual incidents sure add up over time. And here most of these incidents are not caused by mental health issues.  They are caused by immaturity, ignorance, desperation, and jealousy. 
Its interesting that probably  some people that bash the west.  Say on the forums don’t cross the Thais.  You don’t know what they can do to retaliate.  If you have noisy neighbors for example.  Don’t try talking to them to resolve it.  Just move. If it happens again. Just keep moving.  Sounds like a number of people live in fear of the locals.  But they are quick to just bash and pass judgment on the West.  Maybe because in reality they just happen to hate their home country. 
I’m kind of surprised no one posted yet saying this particular incident was influenced by the USA.  
Violent acts are not based on where the person is from .  It’s based on the individual themselves.

RTP saunter over to the scene of the crime the following morning. No need to secure the crime scene to stop evidence being removed, nor any need to process the scene before any potential rainstorms wash away evidence. 

Must have been a low value mass murder event.

When boys are not disciplined you get what we read about every day in Thailand - thugs and partner-beaters or murderers who react with violence when someone actually answers them back in adult life. Hardly rocket science. But treating boys as Thais do is deeply ingrained into the culture and a section of men-children will inevitably act as they do.

I have a four year old nephew, naturally - as is the culture - being raised by his grandmother as his parents are too busy to be parents. I was at the house one evening when he took exception to something his grandfather said and he pretended to attack him with a knife. How long before he uses a real one? Yet nothing was said to the young thug. My wife said he'd grow out of it. Really? You can read his future in neon lights.

Bad news sells. 

Violence, robbery and murder happen everywhere, I don't think Thailand is particularly bad though obviously it's not all peace and harmony. Much of this, as in all countries, is fuelled by inequality, poor education, dead end jobs or indeed just no job. Drugs and alcohol add to the problems.

Minding my own business, I still come along people fighting, once in a while, and in places where I wouldn't expect fights.

Yes, and no. I never heard of vocational or university students of different schools in the U.S., Switzerland, or the UK having violent fights all the time, but it is quite common in Thailand...

Why do you even quote, with your all negative about Thailand? What we read about is isolated incidents. Most people in Thailand are regular good people.

Sounds like a scene of total carnage.  How does someone get two lethal stab wounds to the back of the head?  Beaten to the floor and then stabbed in the back of the head?  Complete psychopath.

 

And Lee got a gun and started shooting, killed the bouncer for nothing, and still died from a knife wound?

 

Horrible about the bouncer as well.

 

What a complete waste.

I think what it comes down to is day-to-day things, without any catalyst, Thai people can be very kind and peaceful.  Whereas often in Western countries it seems like people want to mess with others just for fun.  The problem is that it is a lot harder to know what type of person you are dealing with in Thailand and when things go south they can do so very quickly and there isn't much support, if any, for foreigners.

 

Personally, I would pick day-to-day interaction in Thailand over the West, but western responses if something did turn violent.  I guess you need to think about which you are more likely to encounter.

 

I think a lot of Thais feel the same about being careful in case people lose their <deleted> if they complain about them.  Although they seem to be able to sleep through anything.

I think the thing that makes it remarkable is the fact that Thai people can seem so calm and accepting then suddenly explode into violence and murder over something trivial.

I’m really curious about this phenomenon. Does anyone know the “reason” why there’s literally gun battles in the street between vocational schools
