On June 9 (Thursday), cannabis and hemp finally become legal in Thailand and can be used not just for medical purposes but also as a cash crop.

Thais will be able to grow marijuana for personal use, while businesses can cultivate the herb on a large scale to produce cosmetics, food, and innovative products.

However, under Thai law, cannabis extracts containing more than 0.2 percent of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will continue to be listed as a narcotic. Otherwise, users and growers will not have to worry about legal problems anymore.

Going legal

Thailand legalized marijuana for medicinal use in 2019, yet people continued to be arrested and convicted on cannabis-related charges because the plant was still a controlled substance under several laws. For instance, cannabis was banned under the Narcotics Code until December 9, 2021.

Starting to get very annoying that no official spells out in capital letters exactly what is an extract. Makes a complete mockery of what should be a monumental day for Thailand.

To directly quote the 'now immortal' words of the great zzaa09, "Rollin' up a dobbie as we speak......". ????

So I can finally use the plant for insomnia.  It's too much of a pain in the butt to attempt to buy the oil, plus the oil is extremely expensive compared to other cannabis oil sold globally.
So back to the good old fashion way of using the herb.
Anyway, I'm glad it will be decriminalized and can now actually be used for medical purposes.

''As to whether smoking pot at home is legal, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has only said cryptically: “Some acts are legal but against conscience.”

It's sort like mask wearing isn't it. Well there's still a mandate to wear them, but it's up to you if you don't want to.

So is hash an exract? I would think it 'maybe' or 'maybe' it isn't. Are heads considered an extract? It would seem not but who knows. From the BP story it will be illegal to cook using buds. This is truly insane. Dope is good for asthma but is obviously much better if not inhaling the smoke. What about dope tea? Bhang lassi? (fantastic drink with a very long lasting effect) but is blending a drink considered cooking? Not in my book. Once again a well thought through policy by a bunch of empty headed amateurs. I do notice above though that businesses will be able to produce food.

Gonna get messy when casual users start getting 'arrested' and extorted by the local Police.

They must be rubbing their hands with glee.

They like nothing better than a bit of vague legalese which both induces people to commit crimes thinking they are doing nothing wrong, and gives the Police an avenue for additional revenue through threats, extortion and bullying.

Well you are incorrect..

It appears that anything that gets you high is still illegal. I did notice something about pot being taken off the “narcotics” list. Don’t know if that impacts sentencing or legality in any way, Comments?

The extortion has already started, and although these officers were subsequently reprimanded, a leopard never changes its spots.

It's perfectly clear.

"The use of cannabis flowers and floral clusters must be controlled by law because they contained narcotic substances" - PM Prayuth yesterday.

Sorry but this is very old news and the consequences of the police actions (and reprimands) are a contributor to the confusion.

It's a week old.

What are you confused about? The law is perfectly clear.

Less than 0.2% THC content; stems, leaves, etc. used for medicinal and other purposes = legal.

More than 0.2% THC content including buds, flowers and products thereof used to get high are classified as narcotics = illegal.

Try reading through some of the 'many' contradictory statements about what will be illegal or not, then you might understand (or not). ????????

At the moment, the Thai government are confused about the issue.

You and others are only 'confused' because you are not getting what you want i.e. the bits of the plant that get you high being declassified as a narcotic.

The law is clear, statements from the PM are clear... not sure what else will clarify it for you?

It's quite clear ....... you can grow whatever you want.

And if the police arrest you, they will be moved to inactive posts.

In 2022, the Ministry of Public Health is pushing for legalization of all cannabis parts. And this is seen as the last remaining hurdle for the full use and commercialisation of cannabis. Previously, Thailand removed stems, roots, leaves and sprigs of cannabis from its Category 5 narcotics list, but kept flowers and buds on it. Under the new Narcotics Code, cannabis and hemp are no longer in the list.

However, one form of cannabis will remain in the list i.e. cannabidiol (CBD) extracts with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) of more than 0.2%.

An article dated mid May.

have you really not noticed that this situation is changing on a daily basis?

You can grow six plants at home, but can't use the bud or extracts thereof as they are still classified as narcotics.

It's only the extract that has the 0.2% limit.

Grow it, pick it, smoke it in private. No problem.

That info is current.

Seems your arguments are based on wishful thinking rather than anything else.

Those of us that have been here longer than ten minutes know exactly what is going to happen here.

And to clarify; I am not against the decriminalisation or legalisation of cannabis use for recreational purposes.

They didn't really legalize pot.  They legalized that stuff I used to think was pot as a kid when it was just the leaves that fell off the plant that had almost no THC in it.

I think all of this is basically setting the framework for legalizing actual potent THC bud for recreational use.  Maybe in another year or so.  They may be willing to turn more of a blind eye to some of that going on now, like people growing plants at home that just happen to have extremely potent buds, but that remains to be seen.

Bud and flowers are extract mate.

Correct.

Very simple to understand. Glad someone gets it.

No it is not.

Go and do some research and stop talking rubbish.
