Jan. 6 committee says probe shows Trump led and directed effort to overturn 2020 election

The Trumpists are flummoxed.

While most of them.will never stop worshipping the object of their desire, I think many of them are starting to get that the jig is up!

Pro-Trump web raced to debunk Jan. 6 testimony. Then they got confused.

The former president’s supporters quickly spun an online conspiracy theory that he couldn’t have possibly lunged for his driver’s steering wheel on Jan. 6, 2021. When evidence suggested otherwise, they tried other routes to distract from the truth.

Never thought I'd say this:

THANK YOU LIZ CHENEY!

Dislike her politics, love her REAL patriotism.

She'll likely pay with her seat, but she should be honored in every possible way.

Given how we've seen him lunge for the steering wheel of the country, throwing a fit and reacting violently when he was made to stand down, nothing this man does, did, or will do surprises me anymore.

So true. She and Kinzinger are just about the only GOP reps who are not amoral spineless maggots.

Who would have thought?

An attorney for Virginia "Ginni" Thomas argued that she should not have to testify before the Jan. 6 Committee because she has been subjected to a "particularly stressful time."

Thomas has previously said that she "can't wait" to be interviewed by members of the House Jan. 6 Committee.

From a hyper right wing rag this story is telling. If you read nothing else read the last paragraph of the WE link.

In an op-ed this Wednesday, the Editorial Board for the Washington Examiner declared that the testimony Tuesday from former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson "ought to ring the death knell for former President Donald Trump’s political career."

"In short, Hutchinson was a conservative Trumpist true believer and a tremendously credible one at that," the Board writes. "She did not overstate things, did not seem to be seeking attention, and was very precise about how and why she knew what she related and about which testimony was firsthand and which was secondhand but able to be corroborated."

January 6 testimony puts Donald Trump in even greater legal peril

In raising Giuliani’s interest in a pardon, Hutchinson also testified that Trump’s former attorney may have also been central to a crime with respect to his seeming knowledge of what the far-right Oath Keepers and Proud Boys groups were planning for January 6.

“Oath Keepers” and “Proud Boys” were words heard at the White House when Giuliani was around the complex in the days before the Capitol attack, Hutchinson testified at the hearing.

The new connection between Giuliani and the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys raised the spectre that the former president’s then attorney was broadly aware of the intentions of two far-right groups – whose senior members have since been indicted for seditious conspiracy.

The Jan 6 investigation is just that, an investigation.  There is nothing to preclude hearsay information.   She was clear between what she heard and what she personally witnessed.

She has identified the people who can corroborate the information.

I have strong hunch that this women is in legal jeopardy now, in way over her head and very soon she will be outed and find herself under felony indictment and trying to post bond. She's lying, obviously.

Trump White House attorney disputes Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony about handwritten note

"The handwritten note that Cassidy Hutchinson testified was written by her was in fact written by Eric Herschmann on January 6, 2021," a spokesperson for Herschmann told ABC News Tuesday evening.
"All sources with direct knowledge and law enforcement have and will confirm that it was written by Mr. Herschmann," the spokesperson said”.

Yes, for sure she can say anything under oath as long as she believes it to be true. The problem starts in a court of law, if it happens at, where all her hearsay testimony would require corroboration or it will get tossed at discovery.

How can this J6 committee be taken seriously when they use this dubious hearsay testimony. They have nothing and it's pretty obvious.

Trump proven unfit for power again

Trump is a disgrace. Republicans have far better options to lead the party in 2024. No one should think otherwise, much less support him, ever again.

Be that as it may, as long as you believe it you are likely alone but it does not change that fact that Cassidy Hutchison is lying and its proven. This is a disaster for the dems J6 production. I am not surprised at all, this is typical.

I strongly suggest that you provide a source from a credible source that she is lying.   She has identified what she witnessed personally and what she heard from others.  She also identified who was in the room when she heard things.  Whether what she heard is accurate or not has yet to be confirmed, but that certainly does not necessarily make her a liar.

Trump's attorney is not a credible or independent source. From your link.

In response to Herschmann's claim, a spokesperson for the Jan. 6 committee said, "The committee has done its diligence on this and found Ms. Hutchinson's account of this matter credible.

An attorney for Hutchinson did not respond to a request for comment from ABC News, nor did Meadows.

One further point, if you believe the testimony of the lawyer, then it is prima facie case has been made that Hutchison did in fact misstate the facts which is a lie.

Your appeal to "believe" Trump's attorney does not establish that Hutchinson lied. Do you have evidence that she lied or are you just voicing your opinion?

The article implies that the committee verified the handwriting as Hutchinson's.

where did I say he was OUTSIDE the car, please be polite, don't put words in my mouth.......again listen to her testimony, if you do so, trust me,  it all be exponentially believable..... but being a Trump admirer it will be difficult for you to accept, anyway, give it a try   555

Gee, seems to me that what you DID say............was [paraphrasing]: "I didn't say he was inside the car."

Inside or outside............is there a third option I'm not aware of?

But no, it's true, you didn't actually use the word "outside." But when outside was the only alternative you left available............ (inside and outside, and you eliminated inside!)........ it's not "putting words in your mouth" to say so!

But then, in a comically ironic twist of hypocrisy, in the very same post, you said this........

"but being a Trump admirer it will be difficult for you to accept, anyway." -- Mavideol

Except the ONLY THING I have ever said on this board about how I feel about Trump............. is that I absolutely LOATHE the man!

The difference between me and a number of others here who are obviously and vocally disgusted by Trump is, though............. I don't let my loathing for the man cloud my ability to seek, understand, and accept what's true. Nor do I let it prevent me from examining and considering alternatives that might be true.

But here we have a person who in one breath says........... "Don't put words in my mouth"............. in the next breath............ mischaracterizing my personal view of Trump, to be 180° opposite to what it actually is!

Pffft!

The article you linked here does not reference the handwritten note which you relied upon to accuse Hutchinson of lying. You are deflecting. You need to provide evidence that the note was not written by Hutchinson.

Ok, if you say so. Only way to get at the truth is in a court of law. Nobody seems to know what the truth is here.

Trump's lawyer, he's on a roll, but you don't believe him and categorize him as "not a credible or independent source", probably many would agree with you.

"Former White House attorney Eric Herschmann told the House January 6 committee that he brutally mocked a plan from a Trump loyalist to hijack control of the Justice Department in a last-ditch effort to overturn the 2020 election."
