Old man making merit suffers skull fracture after attack by vicious walking-stick wielding monk in Surin

Daily News Thai Caption: Vicious monk

Daily News reported on yet another transgression by Thailand's increasingly maligned monkhood. This one was very serious.

They said that a woman they named only as "B" had gone to the police to file a report against "Luang Taa Uan" - Fatty Monk the Elder.

He's a monk at a kind of Buddhist affairs office in Ban Kanthajan, Prasat, Surin in Thailand's NE.

She told Thung Mon police how the monk used a walking stick to attack her grandfather causing a skull fracture.

The old man - named only as "A" - was covered in blood and needed 7 stitches and was still recovering in Surin Hospital two days after the attack.

The monk only said that he didn't like the look of the old man.

It was lucky that relatives managed to intervene in time to save the old man from an even worse beating.

The attack occurred on June 11th when the family went to make merit and pay their respects to Buddha.

It turned into a nightmare.

Fatty Monk was alone at his "temple". The family decided to seek the monk's advice about lottery numbers after their merit making.

While they were waiting their turn something snapped in the monk who launched an unprovoked attack, according to the granddaughter.

He was also babbling in "Khymer tongues" slagging off the family and even threatened shooting them.

Not surprisingly the family were utterly bemused by this torrid rant from the supposed holy man.

One of the family members whipped out a phone to film the altercation.

That really set off Fatty Monk who grabbed the walking stick.

The grandfather fell down unconscious after the savage blows to his head.

Now the family have filed a report for assault causing grievous boldily harm. They want action against the monk and checks on his mental state fearing this could happen to someone else.

Thankfully the old man who was assaulted has made a full recovery.

point is they felt more compelled to film rather than help with the situation as a whole.

but you knew that right,

I can't decide which religion out of the big three has the worst behaved clergy.

Fatwahs, Fiddlers, or Flagellators?

Heaven preserve us!

Based on that philosophy then I don't like the look of most religious followers but that does not give me the right to smack them about with my walking stick. Unless of course there is an emerging sport in Thailand called "wack a monk"

Maybe the monk has been smoking weed.

Everything else is getting blamed on it at the moment.

Not nice attacking the old boy like that though.

It seems Whacko the monk would be more suited to prison guard duties, but sadly no handouts there....????

Is it any wonder that fewer and fewer people believe in religion nowadays?

In my youth (wow, what a memory!) I attended (i.e. was obliged to attend)  chapel and church regularly, but as I learned more and more about the lies that the church told and all the kiddy-fiddling and resultant covers ups that occurred, I was horrified and just let my faith lapse.

One of the blatant lies told by the Catholic Church was that hell awaited anyone, who died without confessing his sins, had he not gone to Mass on a Sunday.  If anyone can show me where this appears in their Bible, I would be interested to see it.

Muslims kill infidels, and then shout "God is great!"

Here in Thailand, we are increasingly hearing of monks behaving badly and yet I see no reduction in contributions to their cause.  I see some monks living quite easy lives in accommodation that would be fine for me, apparently with enough cash to purchase personal computers, televisions and telephones etc which would suit most people.

Provided anyone has their personal code of ethics, e.g. take responsibility for their own actions, do no harm etc. religions are superfluous.

They are useful to those who crave power over their fellow humans.

It is common and harmless cultural practice in Thailand to seek advice from monks regarding the Lottery. Don't demean the culture of Thailand (which you obviously don't understand) it is against the rules of this forum.

The user started filming before the monk attacked as evidence of his mis behaviour the monk then escalated his verbal abuse to physical attack on the old man. Other members of the family assisted the old man and the person filming the incident kept his (or her) head and continued recording which is excellent evidence against the monk so they can at least get the costs of his treatment from the organisation the monk represents

If you are not in the position to help, filming is the next best thing as it provides evidence for the authorities.  It's always a good idea to film.

One more reason to stay away as far as possible from all religions.

Sad to see what started out as a benign philosophy has been turned into a religion.

Monks on Ganja , the new norm ??

"... Buddhist affairs office in Ban Kanthajan, Prasat, Surin..."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

A prasat (insane  ประสาท)  monk in Amphoe Prasat (castle ปราสาท ).

Maybe he thought he's a Shaolin monk and was just practicing his stick fighting.

This is not the only monk story today one had it on toes after handing a locked safe over containing 15m as surety and asking for 2.5m only after his disappearance was the safe opened which contained only holy air its as easy as that here ????

After two days in hospital and a fractured skull he's made a full recovery?

He may suffer future problems from that or there was no fracture?
