The former Vice President and others are vowing to outlaw abortion across the country

 

With the demise of Roe v Wade in a decision announced Friday morning by the US Supreme Court, Republicans like former Vice President Mike Pence have their sights set on another target: a national abortion ban.

 

On Twitter, Mr Pence celebrated that the court had returned “the question of abortion to the states and to the people” and called on anti-abortion activists to continue working across the country to ban abortion in every state.

 

“Now that Roe v. Wade has been consigned to the ash heap of history, a new arena in the cause of life has emerged and it is incumbent on all who cherish the sanctity of life to resolve that we will take the defense of the unborn... and support for women in crisis pregnancies to every state Capitol in America,” he wrote, before adding: “Having been given this second chance for Life, we must not rest and must not relent until the sanctity of life is restored to the center of American law in every state in the land.”

There is no child. There is a foetus. It is not viable outside the womb. 

 

By the way, are you also in favour then of laws that require the man in question to support the woman who bears the child from that instant of conception onwards? Why can't men be required to have vasectomies (they can be reversed when conception is required)?

An abusive relationship.

A school or college girl with an unplanned and accidental pregnancy

Stealthing

Contraceptive failures

 

 

As a mental exercise: if men could become pregnant the same as women do, do you believe there would even be a debate? My guess is that abortion would become a "god given inalienable right" and amended into the constitution as such...

my guess is 80% of men don’t want a baby especially if the couple falls in the working class/poverty classes…so don’t put the blame solely on women…..do you mean like all the deadbeat dads out there where women who do have a baby and forces them into poverty w/o any economic and social support by the man? It’s an epidemic in usa….now you are adding 1.5 million children to a culture that don’t want them and can’t afford them…the republicans will be first in line to say no to expand social services and Medicaid yet they are the ones b/c of their flawed ideology that will cause this demand.

A woman's lifestyle has changed a lot since I was young I remember when a kiss meant something, and a feel sometimes got you a slap in the face. Maybe if those days came back there might be far less abortions'

   She should at least get agreement  from the male when deciding anything

Is there any Republican in particular who will be to blame for the 1.5 Million unaborted babies ?

  Two inner Americans Democrat have sex without taking any precautions and yet pregnant  , yet its some Republicans fault ?

The male has a right to his say, there is free speech but unless you want to head back to the dark ages and slavery then he certainly has no rights on what a woman does with her body. This is also enshrined in law that he cannot compel a woman to have a baby against her will. It is her right and hers alone.

This points to a valid reason that a “one law fits all” approach fails. The studies have shown that conservatives are more oriented to a world view of … right/wrong, yes/no, black/white, all/nothing. The reality is that life is more complicated and in the issue at hand there are so many complexities that it is not possible to allow for all contingencies. That is a main reason that the decision is not mine to make for others. But then, I am not inclined to use conservative reasoning on personal medical decisions.

I wonder what would be the position of the anti abortion activists if you could determine the child's sexual preferences before birth?  A Christian preacher in Texas has recently advocated the execution of gays.

Perhaps Pence, as a Republican politician, should have a quick glance at the figures on what the US voter actually wants - and its not stricter aborton laws.

I wonder, what Pence and all those other old goats and farts would say, if their (grand-)daughters are pregnant by rape or carrying, for whatever other reason, a handicapped, unborn child. 

My personal is, that men should have no say whatsoever in this matter. Allow abortions within a given, already existing legal time frame allowing women to decide for themselves without ifs, whens and whys.
This country here is full of unwanted children, as their mothers - mostly totally uneducated - hop into the sack with pollinating men. Latter bonk around all over villages and then disappear into thin air. This leaves tens of thousands of kids in the skillful hands of their grandparents, aunties and God-only-knows-who to be brought up for monetary reasons by the same old-fashioned manner. 

Hence the Pope, Pence and all the other geezers should shut up their mouth .........

The law is very clear in this:

 

"If a man's pregnant partner seeks to have an abortion, the father's consent isn't legally required; a woman may choose to terminate a pregnancy against the father's objections."

 

Infact he's not even got a legal right to be told by her that she's going to get one. This has already been ruled by the courts in the US

Hopefully this backwards step on womens rights will cost the republicans dearly this is a mistake of the first order imo personally I find abortion a heartbreaking choice but sometimes the right one that beeing said I’m staunchly pro choice let’s hope the dems can get a big enough majority to codify the law on the federal level

For a number of reasons my first wife and I decided on an abortion when she became pregnant with what would have been our third child 50 years ago. All I can say is that not a day goes by without us wondering what that little life would be like today had we not taken that action.
