Popular Post ezzra
And this is why folks, we have a 'tourism minister' to come up with such a cockamamie ideas.. on a one hand, Thailand want to turn this and that into 'hubs' to attract more tourists and on the other it takes a big gun and shoot its self in the foot...
Popular Post anchadian
How will this work with foreign tourists who need a hotel would have to book on Agoda or Booking.com? Will the hotel rates be adjusted? Those in country, as pointed out earlier, would only need a Thai name to book. It appears to me that this idiotic plan will be directed to only telephone calls to the hotel. 2
Popular Post Millcx
If this stupid rule starts then you might as well put up an airport for Sale Sign because Tourist will 100% boycott the country and plunge it into chaos .. jethro69
Well, as I see it, doesn't effect me much, as I have a rental, It's a bit like the national parks, you have a choice to simple not go. However, the genuine tourist is, unless booking over Airbnb or similar, will be affected, and little choice to avoid the charge, unless choose a different country. Honestly, I didn't read the full article, but I understood, there have been discounts to boost the industry. The only means I can imagine where the government can be involved, are tax releases for hotel operators. It's not wrong per se to admit discounted prices during hard times for the locals of a country. However, a dual price scheme has a bitter taste if others find out. If I'm in charge, I would rather give away vouchers to be spent for accommodation, parks, restaurants, or whatever.
Popular Post DjSilver
Another Thai racist idea. More people should skip Thailand altogether. Less coming than during the plandemic is the best way to go. 3
Popular Post AhFarangJa
Absolute blatant racism. My solution will be to have the Wife book the hotel in her name. Then wait and see if the hotel sees her surname as a Farang, and tries to charge her more. We already do as swampy above mentioned. I get a price, then the wife goes in, gets a price, then I follow her and pass the money over. The looks on the faces are PRICELESS.......

To make it all better we have stinky foul-mouthed hookers lined up on the streets for you. That's what you are here for - Don't forget to stroke our ego by telling us how good Thailand is Sadly there are elements of real truth in those words. I do however hope that there have been some translation errors in the reporting of this story. Otherwise it makes no sense. My instinct tells me discounts under the 'We travel together' scheme (in whatever form it becomes) will continue to offer discounts to domestic tourists, but not foreign tourists. Rather than domestic being offered normal prices and foreigners offered a more expensive premium price for hotel rooms. I feel that this story has been badly and inaccurately reported, but then again very little surprises me in Thailand anymore.

Popular Post Walker88
I think this just shows how literally flexible the Thai authorities are. I mean, who else can shoot themselves in the foot, while the foot is in the mouth, and the head is up the ar se? Popular Post internationalism
I don't think agdda, booking and all hotel platforms would allow such policy on their websites. Tourists will switch from hotels to airbnb, also on agoda and booking privet renting accommodation can be selected - their owners are not forced to follow governmental rules on renting. This policy of dual pricing in hotels suppose to run already in thailand, according to some, but I have never came across it. I do stay in the cheapest possible guesthouse in the area, because only those places would allow my dogs in the room without extra charge (or with a minimal charge some 100b/dog)

I hope the foreign press get onto this and I can't wait for the flip flop or explanation how this is justified. It's already headline in Swiss Press: Thai government's controversial plans for discrimination Foreigners should pay more for hotel rooms than locals! The accusation that tourists in Thailand are 'walking ATMs' is not new. According to initial reactions from industry insiders, a pricing system that penalizes foreigners is also unlikely to accelerate Thailand's tourism recovery. The opposite is likely to happen. Namely causing even more trouble among expats and causing tourists to look out for reasonably priced alternatives when planning their travel destinations. https://www.blick.ch/wirtschaft/umstrittene-plaende-von-thailaendischer-regierung-touristen-sollen-mehr-fuer-hotelzimmer-bezahlen-als-einheimische-id17639364.html 16

Renzo
Sheer stupidity, reeking of racism from a government seemingly hellbent on destroying its tourism recovery. First slapping 300THB fees on foreign arrivals (still unclear when that begins) and now punishing foreigners for returning and fostering the economy. Do these clowns not realise Highland competes for visitors with a growing number of other countries that are actively welcoming and encouraging foreign visitors now? Can they read or are they completely illiterate?
