Now let me see how that's gonna work for me...my wife who is Thai so she will need to get one room priced for Thai Tourists, & I'm a Farang so I'll need a second room at the Farang rate, & I guess our kid who is 1/2 Thai & 1/2 Farang will need a 3rd room priced at 1/2 the Thai rate & 1/2 the Farang rate, or else he may be required to spend 1/2 a night in my room, & 1/2 a night in his mom's room?  Wow...it's gonna get awfully complicated for mixed couples attempting to vacation in Thailand!  ????

Nobody wants this dual pricing, the tourists obviously don't, the Hotels don't.

Its a PR disaster, its now in the international press.

They should discuss with the Hoteliers Tourist board Meeting wise 

First have a idea where they all agree a strategy then put out to the Media all singing from the Hym sheet ????

Last week my vet told me to take my cancer ridden dog to see the overbooked Specialist in Hua Hin.  He told me just don't take no for an answer and ignore the already long queue ahead of me. Dual pricing is a perfect way to reduce the number of visitors. I thought that they wanted to increase the number of foreign visitors to Thailand. If they want foreign tourists to pay more, they could charge a tourism tax, but also that would make some tourists avoid Thailand. The real problem in Thailand is, that all hotels are targeting foreign tourists who better can afford the higher prices, which makes the price of prime location land and property go up.

Sure and then go to the hotel coffee shop for a bowl of noodles, Thai family members charges maybe 40 to 60 Baht per bowl. The one farang at the table charges 200 Bht for same bowl of noodles.

The idea that the government CARES what we think about the dual pricing, is rather naive. Thai law has always showed raw contempt for non-Thais visiting and living in Thailand. Xenophobia has always been off the chart here. Attempts to track your every move are much like the old Soviet Union or North Korea. The attitude has always been “If you don’t like the laws here, go back to where you came from.” I am amazed that some farangs think they can “negotiate” with Immigration and the Royal Thai Police. There is certainly no tolerance for the opinions of aliens in the USA or UK.

Don't really care what hotels charge foreign tourists...my "retirement visa" gets me Thai promo rates at the fancy international Bangkok hotels, island, and mountain resorts that have them. As for the smaller Thai places I normally stay, prices are so reasonable no need for any further discount.

The minute anyone considering visiting LoS sees the words duel pricing 90% are not going to bother particularly with the rising travel costs !

Perhaps if they adopted the message of, " we know air fares are crippling many travellers, but come to LOS and claw back a little with lower accommodation costs."

Hotel dual pricing in Thailand already exists . Hotel in Bangkok 3 years ago , I was paying 1200 baht a night . I found a bill in the wardrobe , made out to the previous occupant , for 450 baht a night . I confronted the manager who refused to comment .

What is happening now is the government are encroaching on free enterprise businesses which will undoubtedly mean that there will be an individual with his finger in the pie with the potential to make a lot of money . Dual pricing , based on a persons nationality ,is at best racial discrimination which is a crime in the western world but here it is not disguised and is approved by the government . What the TAT needs to remember is that the low cost of goods and services on holiday destinations , are a major consideration for potential holiday makers . What is the point of travelling half way round the world , to a country that is openly biased to foreigners , when there are equally good , much cheaper and safer countries in Europe .

How would it work while using a website like Agoda or Booking.com. Let's say you are just looking on the Internet. There is no way for the website at first to know if you are Thai or not. They'll write 2 prices down? 1 for Thais and 1 for foreigners? Because if they can't hide it, I can't see how foreigners wouldn't be offended. That would lead to many choosing another destination instead.

 

Anyway, as said by all of you, this is the stupidest idea they have had yet. And that says a lot...

When checking in at any Thai hotel you must show a Passport/ID card.

Certain hotel chains already seem to be putting their prices up considerably

 

Marriot hotels in Bangkok this month appears massively inflated, I normally book quite a few nights at Marriot or Sheraton in Thailand but currently the prices are crazy high against other big hotel chains.

 

Greed factor already coming into play........... but I suppose this is good for the budget hotels, as the big hotels get emptier so the budget hotels will thrive with new clients.

I can't see that this will happen in reality.  Hotels run by people with business acumen (and there are many) will simply ignore it, those who slavishly follow it will have to rely on Thai bookings or go out of business. Almost a Darwinian outcome!
