"However, a growing number of economists are expecting the euro zone to slide into a recession next year, with Nomura, for example, forecasting an annual contraction of 1.2% and Berenberg pointing to a 1% slowdown.

Even the European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, has admitted that a recession could be on the cards — and as early as this year if Russia completely cuts off the region’s gas supplies."

A prediction, not a fact. The Bank of England is predicting 13.7% inflation for the UK in the 4th quarter.

Just watched the hustings and regarding answering questions or having the facts at hand, sunak is streets ahead of truss. Not that what he says is any better than truss, but he comes across as being more aware and on top of things, quite worrying really.

truss really is a wooden, stilted, terrible public speaker, and just seems unconvincing. The opposition must be praying she wins and hoping truss' lead amongst the tory base carries her to victory.

I watched the Sky interviews last night, I wish I hadn't, it was exactly as I expected, an interviewer who would not let the interviewee finish if their answer was not heading in her direction, it was appalling for both MP's.

Plus, Fishi just couldn't stop talking, he fears losing face if he doesn't get the job...:whistling:

But, at least we will still have the same government after the showdown, something to be thankful for when you look at what else is out there....????

Because of inheritance it's rational to wait a year before ascribing economic problems or economic successes to a new government. Of course, Brexit is going to be a stumbling block at least until enough of the older generations die off and the younger ones might avail themselves of the opportunity to reverse it.

Yeah saw that interview earlier this week. truss lost on a show of hands from the tory members who will vote for the next leader. Again she was unable to answer questions on her own pledges.

It was exactly what I was expecting, same as the Yank version...Carp...????

She was asked to explain how she would have saved the £8.8 billion pounds the pledge she u turned on promised if it did not include teachers, nurses and police.

She was unable to do so, it is a serious concern that the next pm (probably) has such a poor grasp of her own policy pledges.

Truss proud of being disliked by environmentalists.

Once again, playing to the reactionary membership of the Conservative party and ignoring the views of the wider electorate.

After the interruption by peaceful environmentalists protestors

“During the latest Conservative hustings in Eastbourne, Liz Truss was interrupted on two occasions by protesters highlighting climate change and the cost of living crisis. Truss told the audience: “I take it as a compliment that I’m so popular with Extinction Rebellion.” The activists from the Green New Deal Rising group were escorted out of the venue by security staff.“

Yes, she was speaking  about one disruptive protest group who have a history of causing disruption a various locations .

That doesn't back up CH claim that she's proud to be disliked the environmentalists .

She was referring to one small  troublesome group in particular, rather than environmentalists as a whole

She referred to a group that weren’t even there.

Once again demonstrating  her ability to be completely out of touch with what’s going on around her and out of touch with the wider electorate on the environment.

A gift to the opposition.

I disagree as I watched the debate and her tone implied otherwise but ok you don’t agree that matches Chomper Higgot’s interpretation-I do but that’s me.

Oh and truss got the group name wrong. She made an assumption that proved to be wrong…quelle surprise.

Right, so she didn't actually say it , but you think that's what she meant and so that makes it factual ?

Who ever gets to be PM they should start now the country is in an awful mess.

Irrespective of the outcome I hope neither of them choose to keep the current chancellor in his post because just  like the PM they are MIA with no comments from either following the BOE shocking announcement and forecasts that has seen confidence in the UK taking a dive if the exchange rate currently is an indicator.

Erm…I didn’t say she said it. I agree with chomper Higgot in that was the implication but I never said she said those words.

O.K Liz Truss has never said or implied or suggested that shes "proud to be disliked be environmentalists" .

She made a sarcastic comment about a small group of disruptive people who do not abide by any laws or rules .

She certainly did imply it.

No one broke any laws during their peaceful protest.

Also truss directly mentioned extinction rebellion in her response and they are an environmentalist group.

The wrong group as it happened but that’s what happens when you make assumptions without fact checking first.
