When I think about my own 18 year old self a couple of things come to my mind which are personal and don't make much sense for other people.

 

For other 18 year old people I would suggest: Discover life! Find out what you really want. Which work do you like or don't like? Where do you want to live? Which people are an inspiration for you?

Don't just study and follow a career path and later find out that this is not really what you like.

And if you live in a cold country with lots of ugly women maybe think about moving to a warmer place with pretty girls.

In the hindsight I am happy that I was too shy or too stupid or whatever at that time.

When I see now a picture of the people from my school 30 years later I think: they are all so old. Imagine I would have married one of those women, even the prettiest of them. Oh no! Good luck I discovered Thailand later in my life.

I'd tell myself that everything I was told about life by Boomers was actually hogwash. Saving your money and being responsible does not get you ahead. Only irrational gambling gets you ahead.

 

So break your precious savings into 10k shots to gamble. Tesla scam here, bitcoin scam there. Anything that looks like an obvious pyramid scheme is a good investment. Follow the herd wherever it goes. Don't think.

In London I knew 2 Drs that were smashed while riding motorbikes. Neither was their fault and one wore all the protective gear.

 

I rode m'bikes since I was 18.

In Thailand I rode wearing helmet, gloves, t shirt, shorts and flip flops. My accident was caused by another motorcyclist driving into me when I was almost stationary, because he wasn't looking where he was going. I was lucky in that I got away with a broken bone in my hand and scraped legs. Could have been a lot worse. I was insured for riding a m'bike.

 

I rode in LOS knowing the potential for tragedy, but I believed that if I was going to have an accident there was nothing I could do to avoid it ( fate ), and it's just too hot to wear proper gear, which in the case of the Dr didn't save him anyway.

 

IMO the only way to be safe on a m'bike is to not be on a m'bike.
