National – The Royal Thai Police on Monday, August 8th, warned the public of large gatherings and mingling as they could face 2 years of imprisonment or a fine of 40,000 baht for violating the regulations to prevent Covid-19 spread.

Police Deputy Spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen revealed that Commissioner Suwat Chaengyodsuk instructed the official agencies nationwide to inspect high-risk areas and monitor activities that include large gatherings.

If found, the authorities could prohibit such activities if they did not have permission from the Bangkok governor, provincial governors, or the provincial administrations, according to the government’s recent issue of prohibiting assembly and large gatherings and mingling that causes Covid-19.

why so sudden this remembering of rule against gatherings ....? Anyone knows more ....?

Suggesting it has something to do with APEC would be the junta excuse.

Sadly the junta is petrified of schoolchildren.

The world government 'elites' seem to have now embraced totalitarianism.  It's not 'just Thailand.'
As such, there are now efforts to outlaw protests as well as speech that doesn't conform to official narratives.  It's not a good sign.

When / if we embrace a "digital economy" it will get a lot worse. You might get automatically fined just for posting that.

All laws here are designed to enrich the police who can choose which and when to enforce them. This is a bonanza & will ensure the invisible RTP will once more be seen on the sois.

I agree with you that it isn't unique to Thailand. In the UK police now arrest people for 'Non Crime Incidents' people can be placed on a non crime incident database without their knowledge. When the right people complain about them. One elderly chap was arrested for a humorous post on facebook which showed that four LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ flags formed a swastika, they sent 8 officers to arrest him and hancuffed him for not committing a crime.
