Popular Post snoop1130
Deputy secretary-general of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Prayad Puangchampa, was dismissed from service today (Monday), after he was found to be unusually wealthy by amassing 658 million baht in assets, many of which are being kept abroad. NACC Chairman Pol Gen Watcharaphol Prasarnratchakit signed an order dismissing Prayad from government service today. The NACC also agreed that his assets should be confiscated and become state property. The NACC faulted Prayad for allegedly deliberately concealing his assets by providing false statements about six of them when he assumed the post as deputy secretary-general on January 4th, 2017. Popular Post tomacht8
Intentional, most serious theft of taxpayers' money with constant repetition and abuse of a position of trust in the office. It's best to lock him up immediately. No bail. 658 million are an acute danger of absconding. Verdict: Comparable to multiple bank robberies. Prison Maximum penalty for multiple and premeditated theft. Confiscation of all stolen funds. But as I know Thailand, such official criminals are treated with kid gloves.
Popular Post spidermike007
They are all corrupt beyond imagination. And the level of corruption simply escalates, the further up the food chain you go. They police and army are not expected to be honest, and they are not expected to engage in law enforcement, traffic or public safety, on any level. It is an irrevocably broken and dysfunctional system. Any hyperbole to the contrary, is just a smoke screen, intended to deceive the most naive amongst us. The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) is one of the most feeble and ineffective of all the tools Prayuth has used to deceive the people into believing that he is fighting corruption. Who was the last high level authority, in the police, immigration, the army, or the active administration they arrested, charged, tried convicted, and sent to prison? Nobody. Zero. Nunca. Nada. Why? Because Prayuth has had a mandate from the beginning to do the very opposite. To protect the elite, the super wealthy who are guilty, those that are connected, and those who are in power. Just think Dark Tao. Just think Red Bull. The list goes on, and on, and on. 20

What many forget is that the most annoying and frustrating corruption comes by way of the local level [tambon, amphoe, provincial], where govts, policing and independent mafia types have their way - always overlooked by the press and the consciousness of most. They make the national government jokers look angelic. I believe, if we were to start anywhere with a dreamy reformation practice - it should include localities above all.......any such justice will trickle up. Maybe. 2

Silencer
Quite amazing the level of corruption here. From the 2-20k to move something local through the system, to monthly payments to police, to 100's of millions being skimmed at the national level. I suppose this guy got a bit too greedy and someone wanted him exposed.

Dogmatix
This is not a new case. It first came up in 2019 with a smaller amount of 227 million. Perhaps the news should be that it took NACC three years to fire him. I wonder what cases he worked on in that time. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/senior-nacc-official-faulted-for-omitting-227m-baht-from-asset-declaration/ He was on the junta’s National Reform Committee which unsurprisingly led to no reforms prior to joining the NACC. He is obviously very well connected. I wonder who he crossed so he couldn’t sort this all out. Originally his wife was caught by AMLO taking excessive commissions from a PTT subsidiary in Indonesia as a land broker there. I wonder if she’s ever been there. No suggestion that any PTT executives are being prosecuted for approving the commissions. Edited August 30, 2022 by Dogmatix
phetphet
Amassing around 12 million quid on a government salary. Plus a pension and a nice pseudo military uniform. Not bad. Right, so I assume the assets confiscated will only be in Thailand. Therefore, he retains his overseas ill-gotten gains. I wonder why no-one ever picked up his substantial overseas transfers ? Every time I send money home, I am reminded of my daily/monthly/annual transfer limits on my e-banking page. Surely it would not be that difficult for someone to identify frequent/large overseas transfers and review these ? Corruption is bad enough but when the money is leaving the local economy, that only doubles up on the pain for the populace. I saw the ironic humour in this particular case but that soon wore off for me. This really is a total disgrace and embarrassment for Thailand. Lord only knows how the locals put up with this nonsense and until something changes, I am afraid Thailand is only going to be operating marginally above banana republic status and the quality of life for the average Thai will increase at a snail's pace. One can only hope those in power (across all political groups) are so arrogant, ignorant and complacent that one day they simply push it too far and the house of cards collapses.....
